hey just wondering what sort of things would be good for an everest trip up to base camp as far as boots, jackets, pants, ect. go. i would really like specifics, and maybe even good deals that you've found on equipment. i would appreciate any feedback! thanks!

I really hope thos post is a joke but no one else has responded so I feel I should say something. I'm no expert by any means... but I think that should be some stuff you'd know already if you wern't gettin' in over your head. For one, everest isn't cheap at all unless you plan on dying. Actually, even then I heard its expensive just to be allowed on the mountain in the first place. Also, K2 is most definitly NOT Everest. Its not quite as tall but harder to climb so might wanna figure out what mountain you plan on dying (err...climbing) on before making the voyage. Might wanna read 'Into Thin Air' or something too. Actually definitly do that.

I feel the most important thing for a basecamp trek is boots. you'll be walking (LOTS) and need good support. A quality heavy backpacking boot to light/ medium mountaineering boot is ideal for the trek. This is pretty much everything I took to Pakistan this past summer: Footwear hiking boots- Med/ heavy Salomon Supermountain 9 River shoes- sneakers Tevas camp shoes- sneakers Raichle Scout 2 gaiters BD socks smartwool x3, liners x3 Lowers Underwear, synthetic x3 underarmour x4 long underwear x2 Medalist, x2 fleece pants ragged mountain field pants x2 railriders, Solstice shell pants lowe alpine shorts x2 board short/ ropegun uppers long underwear x2 patagonia R1, Underarmour, wickers fleece jacket Mountain Hardwear wind shirt Moonstone Down Jacket Moonstone hard shell Lowe alpine T shirt x2 prana, REI head sunhat TNF fleece cap REI dust goggles smith goggles balaclava wickers hands work gloves mechanix liners x3 MEC, BD, OR glove shell BD idiot cord acessory cord climbing helmet Petzl Ecrin harness BD Blizzard crampons Stubai Tirol axe BD Zero Point carabiner, locking x6 BD, kong, omega belay device Trango B52 webbing, 1" 35' prussik cord 6mmx 25' field gear sleeping bag marmot Neversummer stuff sack granite gear Rock Solid bag liner silk sleeping pad thermarest prolite 4 pillow/ stuff sack fleece pillow case camp chair Thermarest chair kit backpack Mystery Ranch G-5000 buttpack MR headlamp x2 BD, petzl spare battery/ bulbs sunglasses/ leash x2 smith/ Goggles multitool leatherman wave pactowl bandana x3 bandana, shemagh camelbak camelbak waterbottle x2 nalgene, cantene pee bottle GSI hygeine kit REI Biodegradable soap, comb, razor + blades + shave paste, toothbrush + paste + dental floss, nail clippers + file, baby powder, deodorant, pocket mirror, wet wipes, hand wash gel, hair ties, synthetic towels + bandanas, pee bottle, gallon size ziplock bags + aluminum foil, sleeping bag liner, contact lens solutions. Small spade per 2-person team. plate, bowl, utensils GSI plate, tupperware bowl personal spices FAK OR survival kit ziploc, gallon size 1 box 15 gallon trash bag 1 box field notebook 8x11 money/ passport pouch other umbrella trekking poles komperdel/ baskets camera/ film Kodak digital dry bags comperssion sack granite gear solar charger brunton clothes pins solar shower MSR dromedary bag w/ shower sunblock/ chapstick x2 Duffle bag GI issue duffle, REI Beast duffle team gear tent MSR Fury water purifier First Need repair kit trowel This was off of my Excel checklist so if something specific is missing, just ask. I was very happy with most of the kit I brought. Very few changes would be made if I go this coming summer. mostly to replace aging stuff.

List: Comfortable Backpack, Sleeping bag good to -5 ( for the guesthouses without decent blankets), comfortable pair of boots, trekking poles, long underwear, sweat shirt, waterproof parka, diomox, map of trek and a $150 to pay a porter to carry all of it so you don't have to. In all honesty, it probably won't even cost that much, but it also depends on what part of the season it is. Great trek, I have sone it twice.. Cheers

Hmmmm, you must have an even lamer job than I do. never said i wasn't going :D Okay, you never said you were going, and then you never said you weren't going...so basically what I am hearing is you're an indecisive little bluwooskymier. I just had to make up that last word. What the hell are you talking about dude? What do you wantrthe information for? You are either going or you are not...or you are going to talk like you are, but then not, or ask extremely vague questions for just no reason at all, and still not. I think someone needs to step back and think a minute.

Just curious what all your (personal) gear weighed in at? Anything you *wished* you had brought?

I recommend you get your self down to your local book store and pick up a copy of Trecking in Nepal buy Lonely Planet. It's a good guide book and will answer all your questions. As for good deals. When it comes to going to Nepal, I recommend you purchase a round trip ticket to Bangkok and then arrange your flight to Kathmandu from there. This is WAY cheaper then arranging your flight from home. Plus you get to enjoy some down time once you arrive back in Thailand. There is a civil war going on in Nepal currently. So costs of traveling in Nepal are cheaper then ever. Personally, I wouldn't think twice about hiring a Sherpa, not only will they carry your stuff but they'll also serve as a guide to local area.
