Anyone aid over winter in Squamish. I've never done any aid but I'm comming back from the praries for a while over Christmas and I'm jones'en to climb.

I am from the prairies as well, where the winters are dry, and as I am sure you know.. not so dry on the coast. Catching a dry stretch is the real trick to doing anything in Squamish,.. and/or hitting it when it's cold enough in winter. The picture above was taken on New Years Eve.
If you catch a nice long cold snap it's actually an awesome place to aid in the winter. There was a few sections of ice-filled cracks that required titanium testicles, :shock: but for the most part it was just awesome climbing in relatively mild temperatures.

The "trick" to doing anything in Squamish is climbing through the rain. Fixing pitches helps a lot so you can dry out at night.

Let me clarify that I was referring to *winter* first off, secondly yes I am "from" the prairies but lived in North/West Van and climbed in the Squamish area for 17 years. I did spent 4 days one winter in the snow and freezing rain before bailing down ropes that had doubled in size because of the icing that had occurred.
In the summer, yes you put up with the rain and work through or around it, that's just part of living on the coast. But in the winter, which the OP's question was about.. it's a whole different story.

Some of us put up with and work through and around rain in winter as well. I was also refering to winter. Putting on more clothes, and soloing means your never sitting at a belay for 3 hrs getting hypothermic. And like i said. Fixing pitches allows you to dry out at night, sort of.

Yes yes....winter is when it rains the most. Here's your winter forecast. October to May = rain with occasional snow....which is quickly melted by more rain :lol: I grew up in the area and lived around there my whole life. It used to snow...now it just rains :lol: Which is why I moved to the Rockies :P
