if the chafing is too bad, do what i do (it's ok, i'm a 5.7- climber!)....yeah, so bad chafing, just sit on the internet and read rc.com for a couple months until you're not scared of exposure anymore. I'm sure you won't chafe as much when you're undies, bum, and harness aren't soaked when pee yourself 5 feet off the ground with NO PRO in. NO PRO Brent

Wait... I onsighted a 5.7- once, but I had belayed my buddy on it before, but had really dark shades on while doing so and could barely see. Plus I got the non-crux beta from my other friend who'd seen somebody climb it 4 years ago. Am I a 5.7- climber? Can I still post here?

Easy: just put one hand in the crack of your ass and use the other for the crack on the wall. This technique has many advantages. 1.) When cleaning routes you can clean two cracks at the same time. 2.) You may practice hand jamming techniques with the ass crack hand so you can get just the right jam with the rock crack hand. 3.) This allows easy reach to your chalk bag, which will be filled with either Goldbond Medicated powder or chalk. One for extra smooth healing action, the other to prevent swamp ass. Of course, I am a 5.17+ climber, and I'm pretty much the best climber in the world...not to be arrogant or anything...so I guess you shouldn't take my superior advice...

http://www.underworks.com/images/8402.jpg Chafe Shield Comfortable and hygienic! Pure cotton chafe shield protects inner thighs from rubbing and chafing. Price: $109.99 / 3 for 291.99 I think I'm going to give one of these a whirl. Note how the 'Shield' completely protects the inner thighs and ass! Wearing the 'Shield' with a liberal application of Body Glide ought to do the trick. I'll be sending 5.7+ in no time!!

Do not post a picture of you wearing that. You want money? We can get money. We can get you what you want. I will even tell people that you climb 5.7+ and I witnessed it.

The post with the Chafe Shield clearly indicates that this thread should be moved back to Gear Heads for further discussion. http://www.underworks.com/images/8402.jpg P.S. She's hott. And well groomed.

For the answer to your question, you have to look back in the history of climbing... what did the oldschool guys do? Forget about these pimply-faced toque-wearing boulder freaks. Look at back when men were men and 5.7's were 5.7s. What am I talking about? Of course... Lycra!!! You might want to grow a mullet to get the full effect. http://www.rockclimbing.com/...p.cgi?Detailed=29286

In reply to: No, your ass will still get chafed in Carharts. You need to do these types of routes naked in order to develop adequate calluses. Curt Interesting. I would have suggested buttless chaps.
