I have a friend of mine who will be passing through J tree in the next couple of weeks and I was wondering what's out there for beginer level sport climbing and bouldering? She leads 5.5 - 5.7 sport (New England Granite) and boulders V0 andV1. Any suggestions of sport and bouldering routes would be great and tent sites would be helpful too. If memory serves the weather is in the 50s during the day and around freezing at night. If someone could confirm that too my friend would be very appreciattive. Thanks

There isnt much easier sport that I know of besides a couple of bolted routes on Headstone rock in ryan campground. If you dont mind climbing hard, there are plenty of bolted run out climbs. Enjoy.

Enjoy. i second that motion. jtree is not a sport area, in the standard sense of the word. the headstone routes are fun, although ive seen 'sport climbers' back off 'em, and the long friction pitch on echo rock on the right is not bad. 5.7 i think? the crux is well protected and low, if i recall correctly. i cant think of anything else thats a clip up. plenty of bolt protected climbs, but they all carry that jtree FA machismo that makes the place so notorious.

I wouldn't recommend J-Tree for easy sport either. It doesn't exist. There is some do-able bouldering in and around the campgrounds. But if you are set on roping her up, you can find some easier TR's at Echo Cove, I took some beginners there and they did fine. Here's a photo
