I personally like granite and basalt the most. Granite is very sticky and basalt is very featured. What about you?

I like variety. It's all good. Since I haven't ever experienced it, I'd love to try limestone.

Yeah, where's granite? (maybe the OP knew that was going to be the obvious choice and wanted to make it more challenging :P )
Btw, what is Welded Tuft, and where can you climb Quarzite?

Limestone is pretty sucky. It has lots of natural pockets and features, but if it gets a little bit wet it's super slick. I prefer granite, but I chose Basalt as my #2. Sandstone is good, but it chews up the gear and can be rather crumbly. Never tried quartzite or welded tuft (whatever that is).

Limestone can be really awesome, it all depends on the area. You're right about getting it wet though.
Gunks quartzite gets bloody slick when it is wet too!

There is welded tuff in Southern Utah near Cedar City (http://rockclimbing.com/...tArea.php?AreaID=202) - the stuff is pretty cool to climb on - forms strange pockets and cool crimpers- very nice texture.
I have also climbed tuff in NZ at Froggat Edge (http://rockclimbing.com/...Area.php?AreaID=4620) - the rock there is very nice.

P.S. Anyone looking to do a search, it's Welded TUFF, not Tuft. thought I'd pass that on.

That's strange, I originally put granite on the list with gneiss, and phonolite porphry in quotations next to it and it didn't show on the poll. I can't change it now that it has votes. Sorry guys, guess you're going to have to choose between the less popular types. Sorry about the "tuft" spelling error as well.

can't believe nobody's mentioned the best welded tuff around - Smith!!! tuff is hardened volcanic ash that welded/fused together into solid rock b/c it was molten when it erupted.

and ice - ice is a mineral b/c it is solid, inorganic, naturally occuring, and has an ordered crystal structure and a relatively unchanging composition. fits all the requirements of a mineral. little known fact: there are actually 6 polymorphs of ice and some actually are denser than water!

yeah i voted for welded tuff b/c i love Smith. we get fun knobby faces, beautiful cracks, and everything in between. i'll take it over traprock basalt of CT anyday.

I have to say I love to climb on limestone. I'm fortunate to have world class limestone 1 hour away from my house Horne lake! Other than that i would say my second choice would be either sandstone or granite.
