just a heads up to anyone wishing to climb at the valley... headed there monday in a jeep with four-wheel drive and brand new snow tires... and got all the way there to find out we had to have chains to get in. our first mistake was not lying to the ranger at the entrance gate, but when she asked if we had chains, we just said "no" as the roads were clear of snow and our tires and 4w seemed like they would take care of all. so, our choices were to a)turn back as we didn't have chains b) suck it up and buy the $100 chains they sell inside the park gate or c) park at the bathroom, dawdle for a bit and then go for it, hoping they forgot about us. well, we went for plan c, and they didn't forget, and we got slapped with a $100 ticket. and we got booted from the park. so just a heads up if you are heading to the valley. 4-wheel drive vehicles with chains are not okay, but tourons driving small sports cars with 2-wheel drive and chains they probably don't know how to use stashed in the trunk are okay.... (as witnessed by the several cars entering after us!!) :)
