I was at REI today and they happened to place the latest snowboard helmets next to the climbing ones. One model (and others) put out by adio, called the bad lieutenant, was pretty much identical to the half dome, the carbon composite helemts, and others. In fact, it was much more comfortable, had removeable ear muff's in case its nippy, and looked damned cool. Both had the rimmed edge for deflecting rocks, very breathable, etc and much much cheaper! I just thought id pass this on. Anybody ever notice this before, or climb with one? interesting. I think I am going to sport a rad new helmet for now on, because nothing is more imoportant than being safe and looking cool. this is a joke, please dont flame me.

well, first off, giro puts out the bad lieutenant, not adio. you'll more than likely sweat your ass off in this thing. its made with zero ventilation and its heavy. much heavier than any climbing helmet. that little lip around the side wont really deflect any more rocks than a normal helmet would.
in all honesty though, go for it. have fun with your new "style".

Might be ok for winter climbing, but I agree that you'd be deliriously hot in the summer with a snowboarding helmet. But hey, if you've already got a regular helmet for climbing, I do remember seeing the Bad Lieutenant on sale for $29.95 recently...

It should be "Audio", not "adio". The Bad Lieutenant has headphones built into the earflaps. :D
As others have said, it looks too hot to wear during the summer.

Funny, I was just thinking about how nice and cheaper it would be if I could get a multi purpose helmet for say snowboarding, climbing, caving and kayaking!

Yes, but it would be confusing to everyone if you had DaKine, Yates, Speleotechnics, and NRS stickers all on one helmet.

My snowboard helmet would be to hot to rock climb in, but I have used it to ice climb. worked very well as a matter of fact.

Regardless...make sure you replace it in about 3 years or less...as those snowboard, skate style helmets (including the Petzl) tend to breakdown quickly.
Until someone comes out with a true "all sport" helmet...buy one for each sport...and I'll think you're COOL.

I was actually considering the opposite. I just got a new Elios from my girl for Christmas and thought it would be great to use it on my board too. I'll have to wait till next season to try it out though.... I won't be seeing any snow till then.

I think the canoeing and kayaking are the same.

I am somewhat of a helmet juggler. I own a Kong Scareb as my main climbing helmet, which is certified for climbing, cycling, kayaking, and equestrian. I use it sometimes for cycling, cause my petzl headlamp fits it real nice. And i used it for skiing for a year, but rarely do now cause i just don't feel cool enough in the lift line. :)
That said, I use my ski helmet for mountain biking in the winter, and would likely use it ice climbing if i had a chance to do that round here in ole virginny, which actually is possible but rare. tis a bit heavy, however, with minial venting as its made to keep you warm.
I used to use my kayak helmet for lead climbing, which seemed ok to me since it has a good hard shell and is well vented.
The "bad luetinent" is a nice lookin lid plus the audio option is awesome for the slopes. Hell, i probably climb in it, at least in the winter. I sure as heck would use it for winter mountain biking, looks real nice for that application.
