Hey All,

I'm not sure where I should post this, but I know that there are quite a-few members who reside in utah. I am looking to do a two or three day backpacking trip around the middle of march. I would like to go somewhere in Utah. any ideas? something not too strenous, but a good trip, perferably near some source of water... I really really appriciate any knowlege you can pass on!

Thank You,

rockrat_co

Depends on if you want mountains or desert. Many of the great hikes in the mountains will be in snow... the desert, on the other hand, will be perfect. If you've never been there... it is one of the most beautiful places on the planet and it's about four hours from SLC.

Hey,
I'd be comming from colorado, so I would be, I assume, close to the desert. Do you know of any specific trails, I have heard that water may be an issue this time of year??? I really appriciate your help!

Thanks,

hey-

I had a nice 3-4 day hike in Dark Canyon in November. It's south of Moab a little ways. Do a google search and you should be able to find some beta. I remember we were going to drop a car and start down Wooden Shoe canyon into dark canyon, but ended up just hiking down into Dark Canyon and base camping while we explored the canyon all the way down to Colorado River and up towards Woodenshoe. Don't remember our exact trailhead, but it was near a distinctive formation called Squaw and Papoose and Jacob's chair. Oh, there was plenty of water, but I'm sure that varies each year. The base camping option is always nice when you're hauling water.

have fun,
Jonathan

I really like Capital Reef. There are so many good trails and places to go that it's hard to narrow it down. March is really a pleasant time of year to be there. The Waterpocket District in Capital Reef has the Upper and Lower Muley Twist Canyons and Halls Creek. There are many other slot canyons and gorges to hike.
