OH MY GOD. Now redriverclimbing.com has shut down.
In reply to: This was a tough decision but I've decided to discontinue putting my time and energy into maintaining and creating this site. With the recent temporary closures and threats of permanent closures as a result of disrespectful climbers I feel I owe it to the climbing community to also take my stance against people of that nature. If people don't take our issues at the Red seriously then we will lose it all in the end. I plan on stripping all private message information and hashed passwords from the forum database and making it available to anyone who wants it. The online guidebook will continue to exist but with limited features. It has been fun but not fun in the end. Ray For those of you who can't click the links above anymore because they don't WORK, the series of events went like this: 1. a guy finds a loose bolt on route at muir valley. 2. instead of alerting the owners, he starts a thread on redriverclimbing.com 3. the thread turns into a witch hunt, with insults and allegations-a-rama. we all know the type. 4. the owners of muir valley shut their area down to climbing temporarily while the bolts are all checked out. 5. instead of being apologetic, the blowhards at redriverclimbing continue acting like a$$holes. 6. now this. redriverclimbing was becoming a really negative place as far as i could tell. i wonder if the members will all drift here now? are they already here?

a qualification: after the owners of muir valley decided to shut it down, LOTS of people on redriverclimbing.com immediately volunteered to help with the chore of checking the existing bolts. i should have made it clear before, but it does seem like the majority of users there were very supportive. but it only takes a few jerks...

I'm betting that the rrc.com "shut down" is only temporary. It is april 1st and the owner is a bit of a prankster.

Muir Valley's site talks about the closing, and says:
In reply to: We are sorry to announce that Muir Valley is CLOSED to climbing indefinitely while we take inventory of the routes and pull maintenance on the hardware. If any of you who are experienced climbers would like to assist us in this maintenance project and speed up the re-opening, please contact me via email at... emphasis mine. So it looks like it will be reopening. Hopefully soon, I only climbed there once last year, but I loved it.

They are slowly opening Muir back up. Check out http://redriverclimbing.com (yes, they are back up, blush) b/c I think they know which ones. As of yesterday Bruise Bros and about everything near the first parking lot were open. And almost NOBODY was THERE!! :D
