As you all may have already heard, the Bush administration has proposed selling our National Forest lands to fund budget shortfalls, mostly Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination program. While it is important that funding the education system should be a priority, selling off public land is not the solution. Click here and learn why. http://www.safc.org/...s_talking_points.php This would include 9,828 acres in North Carolina alone. THIS MUST STOP! If you live in the Appalachian area, this is the time to ACT. Here is a list of the proposed lands up for sale: http://www.fs.fed.us/land/staff/spd.html As outdoor enthusiasts we need to work together to stop this. Get involved! Write your senators! Rally in the streets! Sign the petition! Past out fliers! ANYTHING to stop this ignorant solution that would cause permanent damage to OUR public land. This is our country, lets keep it that way. The above link also includes a sample letter wrote to the USFS that you may use to draft you own. Please write, and do anything else that would help the cause. Post any ideas or appropriate actions to take in this thread. ~Russ
