I would have to say that my inspiration comes from the endless supply of spray found right here. When I here how great everyone at rc.com it makes me want to be as average as the rest of you (you know 5.13's, V9's, 8c's). I would also have to say that I am inspired by squid because...well maybe not so much.

The most influential for me would have to be Fat_Bastard and Little_Mikey. If any of you ever get the opportunity to meet up with these guys you gotta say what up. Oh yeah and Zao479 can climb a mad 5.6 check it out in the New magazine.....................................oh yeah my bad he's not in a magazine.

The Caldwells, Dean Potter, Dan Osman, they're awesome, but they aint got shit on my best bud Aron 8^) . He dragged my sorry ass to the crag over and over when I first started climbing, back when I hated it. He's been kicked off of tens if not hundreds of buildings with me the last couple of years. Oh, and one time he wrote me a prescription for two testicles when he first taught me to rappell. We're hittin up Potrero soon, can't wait for that shit... Aron, you kick ass man, thanks for hangin with me.

I have two sets of most influential climbers. One: The really good climbers that are willing to help out new climbers. Two: The new climbers who struggle everyday and keep at it.

Hmmm; Norman Clyde for being an inspiration, and Derek Reinig, for being the best climbing partner I ever could have asked for. His enthusiasm is infectious, and I lost alot of mine when he moved back to Cali.

I'd say inpiration comes in a lot of forms. From the person on their first day out, to my partners for they're constant encouragment and (almost)infinite patience, to the folks just out there because they love what they're doing. If I had to pick a couple of well knowns; I'd have to say Dean Potter not only for his obvious ability and willingness to push the limits, but his overall approach to things; and Henry Barber for his strict ethical standpoint, and all he's accomplished.

One of the many, that influenced me, is Don O'Kelly. Out at JT, many times in the 60s and 70s, He would let me climb with him, when I couldn't find anyone to climb with. I learned a lot from him. Cosmiccragsman

Allen Steck, for having the vision to bring to North America the kind of ascents that no one here had dreamed of. And for his stories, and incredible knowledge of the mountain environment. And for keeping at it. I heard he put up a new route or two somewhere in the western Sierra within the last few years. Steve Schneider, for who he is, on and off the walls. Pat Brennan, for teaching me how to look not at the routes in a guidebook, but at the blank spaces in between the routes. Em Holland, for keeping me safe in some of the most dangerous terrain I've ever seen, having fun at the same time. Brutus

Charly Gray for getting me on big rock climbs way back in the day, Isa Oehry for constantly pushing my limits on rock and Alden Pellet for dragging me up The Promonade helping me believe that I can lead big Ice routs.

In reply to: My climbing partners. :D You're entitled to your opinion, but the climbers you named are strangers to me. What they do is impressive and has set the course of history, but in my view they are still strangers in a faraway land. My partners, on the other hand are "real", and at my own level. We started together climbing, and progressed together. They inspired me by having the courage to do some of the things I get scared of doing. They inspired me by doing a route that I can't, or managed to do it much more efficiently something I did with brute force. They inspired me because they showed me that something is possible at our level, therefore I could do it too. They inspired me because they showed that they dared to try something new, and I should too. One day they might leave be behind in terms of climbing achievements, or I might leave them behind. But they are an influence to me nonetheless. I hope I have been to them too. I like it very true. the famous climbers to me, are, as said above, strangers. I would have to say the climbers that have had the most influence on me are my main climbing partners, as well. Thanks ... Scott A. Kevin O. Adam B. and Jessica D.

Tonight I am going to toast a beer for every person that took time to teach someone else how to climb. I will drink for every person that has said a nice comment to a climber. I toast to all the non-climbers that have somehow contributed to this sport. (Parents, spouses, admirers, tourist, “employers that give us time off,” etc.) I toast to every climbing legend that has shown us beautiful new levels of achievement. I toast to those who create climbing innovations, write books to teach us safer ways, biographers, photographers, creators of climbing web sites, etc. I toast to the companies that make dependable equipment. I toast to gym owners and all that have climbing memberships. I toast to the people that are involved with allowing us climbing areas. I toast to those who are a caretakers of our environment. I toast to all the bears, dogs, racoons, lizards, etc. that have someone laugh at the crags. I toast to the “rescue/stunt/sport/ military/grip”, climbing teams. I toast to those who fight for the interest of our sport. I toast my beer to every climber that shares this sport with me! I toast to all of us... You are all my heroes, my partners, and my friends. Thank You!

Tradman just knows he can't compete with our fuzzy freinds. My dog is always happy to see me and is always willing to come along for errands/trips/walks... I never met a human like this... If I do, I'll marry him. :D

I find the topic question and the question in the first post, "Who has inspired you to push yourself harder." to be very different. The most influential climber to me was one of the other guys who used to hang out at the REI in Cupertino climbing on Monday and Wednesday evenings when they had their wall open for climbing. I don't know his name and don't really remember what he looked like. I recall that he had red hair, but that might be wrong. I loved to watch him climb. He moved so smoothly and fluidly. I decided that I wanted to climb with the same easy style that he did. I know I haven't achieved his level of fluid motion, but I do get comments from people saying I climb smoothly. I'd say I'm the main person to inspire myself to push harder. The decision to push harder has to come from me. Watching someone else might inspire me to try something I might not have thought I could do, but they provide more of a catalyst than an inspiration. Tony
