Hi,
I just got back (8/25/02) from checking out the fire and roads to the Needles.

The road into Dome Rock is open and there is no fire damage around the
rock. You can see active fire across the river from Dome Rock.

The upper road to the Needles parking lot is closed to both vehicle and
foot traffic. I got a warning citation from the Forest Service for walking
up the road towards the parking lot. There is no estimate when it will be
open for use.

The lower road is fine and again no fire damage.

The good news is that from Johnsondale up there is no fire damage. The bad
news is that below Johnsondale it is "scorched earth" for many miles.
