if anybody here has used the SBGII with a OP Jake biner? I was wondering if anyone who has used the combo of the two together has any comments negative or positive. I'm looking for a new belay device that would be less likley to bind up, currently I'm using a ATC. Also is gate loading a issue at all using the Jake biner with the SBGII?

I'd stay away from the SBGII. You can be carrying a full rack around and still the only thing you'll hear is the jangling of that stupid metal stem. As far as performance, it's not remarkable but it definately works.

I use the triple locking Jake with the SBGII and I LOVE IT! If I want to feel comfortable with controlling the belay and every part of it I use that. I also love it for repelling. I haven't hard any problems with them. I also like the whole thing about the isoforging that they do there, I just think that is really cool. I don't know about the belay device, but I use Jake screwgates as my general-purpose utility lockers. They're pretty solid.

I have used the SBGII several times and my girlfriend has used it almost exclusivly for a year. She likes it a lot, it does not 'bind up' accidentaly at all--I think that is the point. I like belaying with it but do not like rapelling as well as with my Trango Pyramid. (10.5 mm rope) I alos like the sound it make hanging from my harness--it blends well with the sounds of my hexes and tetons! CM

I have that very combo with the twistlock jake, and it works great. I think the jingling can be a little annoying, but the device works good. Also OP has some cool features that you won't find elsewhere like the side opening gate on the Jake which makes for a huge gaping open biner. Lee G.

There was a thread a little while back I remember on this... people friggin' hated this device. Try doing a search on it, you just might find it. Cheers, Jim

In reply to: Binding Up - not releasing smoothly after catching a fall, being a general pain in ones ass. :? Are you sure you're talking about an ATC? Not a common complaint for sure.

I like my SBG II. Never had any problem with it. But I use it mostly with my 9.5 rope. I also have never had a problem with binding on an ATC. It sounds as if you are doing something wrong there. Maybe getting twists in your rope?

Thus, the switch to the SBG II.

I thought that post was about the negative things associated with the SBG II, then I was lost where the ATC comment came from.... As Rick James said: Cocain's a hell of a drug. Jim wow..........

The binding issue has been resolved it was being caused by a narrow biner turning sideways in the ATC. Since I have been using my Jake biner I haven't had the problem. Has anyone who likes the SBG II tried the new ATC Guide? If so which one would you recommend?
