Have any others out there found that the difficulty with these Q-ratings are that if you post a poor rating for some one cause they are often out of line. They come back and trash your rating just to be a prick. It isn't that big of a deal but kinda annoying none the less!! - Rock Freek -

I havent had that happen yet but I have heard that it does. On a related but somewhat different note. Has anyone ever thought about separating the two values? So you could give someone a good rating for their input and knowledge and then another for personality. Maybe a number for the first and a emoticon symbol for the personality or rather how they made you feel? Food for thought I guess.. Adam

I think this is discussed in another thread and I actually feel that they should be gotten rid off. I don't really see how the rating helps anyone or how its useful. The other options considered in the other thread are a lot... better? I'm too lazy to find it, but should be somewhere in General or Community or something... someone'll post it.....

Q-Ratings are being deleted. revor has a bug report in right now to get rid of them. The post counting and photo votes will be modified. Check out this thread for all the details. Hope this solves all your Q blues. ~Erica

yep, Q-ratings are BS, and so are rankings && the way photos are currently rated. therefore, we are making some changes (we == the volunteers who work on the code, and Trevor, who decides the direction of it) to reduce the problems with people acting like grade-schoolers, since they won't get interesting results from their efforts anymore. Neener neener... Hopefully this will help people to concentrate on more interesting things.

About the rating, it should be done through the anonymous rating of each individual answer and post and that’s will resolve the immature answers and redundant post problem making people invest some thought and fact in their response…if u asking me

hey, I agree that the Q-Ratings are pretty silly but I think that once they're gone, everyone will feel free to be as rude & nasty as they like without fear of retaliation. Yeah, the rating doesn't mean much but people seem to care about it and want to have a good one. Without it, we'll probably end up like boldering.com, IMO. Anyway, just a thought . . . I'm curious to see how it turns out.

I agree climbchick~ I think it could get a lot more rowdy in here if it is cut loose. I don't like the current system, but we probably should have something. Perhaps an E-Bay style of voting? And make it so that you have to post a comment with your vote. That way, people won't be so quick to throw around 10's just because someone told them they liked their photo or something. And you'll have to explain yourself as to why a 0 was given. All comments of "because you suck" can be deleted by admins as non-relevant. It will also allow the member to dispute a negative vote by counter-commenting to explain themselves. Let's see if we can be civil to each other after the votes go away. If we go all anarchy on the forums (more than lately?) than we discuss reverting back but maybe use a new system. ~Erica

Erica, I like the comments idea. I think that ideally we should have some kind of rating that reflects a person's experience & technical knowledge and comments would be helpful there. On the other hand, I like the Q rating thing just as it is and have frequently given people 10s just cuz I enjoy their presence here or appreciate some detailed beta that they've given me, regardless of what I think of their technical knowledge . . . I'm going to miss having that ability . . kinda like just smiling at someone. Maybe we could still have some way to send someone a smile (or a hug or a frown or a glare) and not bothering counting them all up, averaging them out, etc. That way my smile wouldn't cancel out someone else's frown and affect some bottom line but the user is still getting input from others . . . ok, maybe I'm getting a bit silly but it's all just in fun. Realistically, I don't think there are more than a very small handful of people on here who take this stuff really seriously and the rest of us just have fun with it. I guess the Q-rating is a bit of a falsehood. I have rated people '10' even in light of strong disagreement. I guess that encouraging all to respect other's right to have an opinion..... is part of the basis for having some rating system. I have rated people the 'same as they rate me' because I couldn't figure out why they rated me. (ie. if call me a dog, I'll call you a dog.) I think if you take the system out completely, we lose the community rates the community system. Gabe

Yeah I f---ing hate Gabe but I rated him a 10 (yes, I am exaggerating, but we have very different points of view) and that's why Trevor wanted them to go away, I think. probably will be something to replace it, like a little "this person is notable for not being a loser" type of icon. Which I would also vote for Gabe and several other people I disagree with, because despite our differences, they contribute to the site. I do not think that we want to totally lose the feedback loop, but right now the Q-ratings are not so so helpful. What would be useful is something weighted, where people can be recognized for Not Sucking and everyone else can feel free to flame on. Which happens anyways, by the way. I also think there should be something in place for this, but the Q-ratings just weren't working out as intended. Once people forget about the Q-ratings (two or three days tops ) then I think we can start looking at new ideas.

I think we should go to a Warm Fuzzie System. Each user gets 10 Warm Fuzzies that they can give to other users who they admire, respect, want to get nekkid with or whatever. The kicker is that once you pass out your initial 10 warm fuzzies you have to purchase more, for say 1.00 each. That way all this "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine" and other stupid junior high behavior will at least bring some revenue to the site. This is in regard to the loss of visible q-ratings and what not. In the routes section of this site and in each state it lists the top rated user from each state. This won't work anymore, just a thought.

I agree with Rckfreek, the ratings were becoming too much of an issue in some members' mind. People could be trashed out of the blue by someone else just because they did not like a word in one of their posts. Now these people will have grow up we hope. It is true that now flaming could become uncontrolled, but I guess we'll have to trust the high level of maturity shown by the majority of members in the past. Cheers

Finally.... I can say what I want, and no longer worry about getting my Q-rating bashed.
Take another hit off that pipe loser boy!!! g'ahed and rap of that one piece.... No, no, use the little one. I hear Darwin is still giving out awards... Cool man... you're doin' it... you're doin' it Don't wear a helmet, but make sure you can afford a private nurse and a lifetime supply of diapers Anyway, I am just kidding.... nothing like kicking sand in the fire. I am, however, CONSIDERING TYPING ALL OF MY FUTURE POSTS WITH MY CAPS LOCK KEY ON..... I like the change... I knew some people who were rated '9.89' but who were definitely deserving of a perfect '10'. And some people where rated as low as '3', but they definitely deserved at least a '4'.. Yes, my alpine rack would be decimated by a multi-directional equalized anchor. Of course, I usually want to get rid of the ball of webbing before I sacrifice my Lowe Tricams. -Salud! Edited :: to capitalize 'Darwin' and add to my list of what I really want to say.... [ This Message was edited by: k9rocko on 2002-08-22 16:48 ]
