"Surprise" at Drapers Bluff is notorius for being Z-clipped between the 4th and 5th bolts... The reason being that you make both clips from the same stance.

If you clip them from the same stance, why would anyone even clip the lower of the two? It seems like clipping both would just be wasting energy.

This is a very odd situation, but you would have to see and/or know the route to understand.

The 4th bolt is just after an easy runout, and the 5th is like 4 feet above it at the crux... Many people blow the clip, which is why the 2 bolts are that close.

 I can't believe I'm reading this!!! You clip the 4th bolt on Surprise??? hahahahah

I bet you clip the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd bolt too ... you fuckin' pansy! All you need is the 5th bolt on that route. Easy runout my ass ...

I'm not actin like hardman here either ... the route is a seriously like a 5.2/5.3 with a 5.8/5.9 crux after the 5th bolt

sorry Tim, I just couldn't help it! That post is worthy of a trophy though :lo:

Makes complete sense that it would not be something you would choose to do.

I had to ask since I'm constantly freaked by the stuff I see younger (Teen's to early 20') climbers do. We make them take a test to drive but for a hundred and fifty bucks they can pick up a top rope package and entertain us all for hours...

Thanks..

"Clarification" before someone says something....I am in no way trying to attack, offend, or belittle younger generation climbers. Some of those people are just damn good, others need to go find another hobbie...he he!

A spot of darwinism usually sorts out those who should have chosen another hobby
