In reply to: In reply to: if you looked at the thermal immaging on a couple of the photos it looks it could be 30+ C and spots that are even hotter than that, i think that your shoes might melt 30 deg C is OK....86 deg F. Once you start breaking 40C I'd call it a day. I thought the same thing... but then again, looking at theses images: http://vulcan.wr.usgs.gov/...5-04-06_FLIR_med.jpg http://vulcan.wr.usgs.gov/...een_05-04-06_med.jpg It looks like the base of that boy is 150+ C! That would be over 300 degrees fahrenheit... That's a little TOO toasty for my Arizona desert blood. I guess we can hope for a dramatic cool down, but then all the rock will probably contract and start falling apart... Good luck!

In reply to: Did you guys see this video? http://vulcan.wr.usgs.gov/Imgs/Video/MSH/MSH06/MSH06_MOVIE_spine_from_brutus_04-28_to_05-03-06_thumbnail.jpg Not only does it show the growth, but it shows the top disipearing about as fast as it grows. As was said, if the gasses don't get you, the rockfall will. Still, I'm glad I'm not close enough to be tempted  gotta go with this guy's observations (and mine too).. reaching the summit by having the top fall off right in front of you is a great way to save energy but damn the timing has to be good. that said Cannon is falling down too but that gets all kinds of traffic ;)
