that there is
rope.
(thanks to boondock_saint for the inspiration)

im looking for a light but durable rope, for sport, trad, mountaineering, alpine, ice, and so on.

so obviosly the ultrathin 8,9 ropes and the like are out of question, but how thin can still be durable and offer more safety than just the usual short sport fall stops.
dry treatment would also be a plus, whereas price is not to much of a concern, but saving moning is always good.

at the moment im looking in the direction of the mammut eternety, but i cant find much about it. any input bout that, or other suggestions/wise words?

you can't find a rope for all those things you want........alpine/ice you want doubles, trad takes alot of wear and drag, sport=alot of falls...

ultra thin???the SMALLEST single rope is what? around 9?

right tool for the right job...think about this shit eh...

why not? of course i cant find one thats perfect for everiything (whats perfect anyways?), but a good high performance alrounder would be nice.

i have some doubles, but there are times when i prefer a single. and a good water repellenci doesnt hurt for trad or sport either

trad takes alot of wear and drag,
really? i would say sport does more of the same.

nope. im afraid of falling. :D

pff. if i only could remember when i used a real bottle opener for opening a beer. normally its hexes, biners, ice axes, my old northbridge cooler, my old phone, a piece of paper, a hammer, or something else that i can grab quickly.

hey, you're asking for opinions.

and if you're sooo sure of this, why the hell are you asking the question on rope advice?

Of course theres no "prefect" rope. But the OP acknowledges this and is looking for the best compromise. Theres a lot of climbers on a budget and having 4-5 specific ropes is inrealistic and uneconomical.

I think both Mammut and Edelweiss have good cords that are thin and durable. Of course, the thinner you get, the lower fall rating (just don't fall!)

smallest SINGLE rope is around 9 mm ,
such as the Beal Joker 9.1 mm
but you may prefer a 9.4 mm Booster

one of the smallest double: 8.1 mm
Beal IceLine: 42g per m 20% less than the mammut you indicated.
Edelweiss Oxygene
Millet Prof Force

I have been using one of those for trad and adventure climb, OK, but wears out faster than my 9mm doubles which weight 49g/m

Go for the sterling marathon pro, it's a good all around rope. 10.1 mm with drycore technology.
