hey all, we all have our strenghts and weaknesses and climbing, what are some of yours? My biggest weakness in bouldering would be slopers and dynos, while my main strength is in crimpers, mantelling, and reachy moves. As for sport climbing, slabs kick my ass what about you guys? cheers jono

i'm good at everything. I'm not really sure what my weaknesses are, i haven't climbed enough different types of things to know. My strengths include flashing 5.8's and having fun climbing anything that looks like it'd be fun to climb. My weaknesses are fear of heights, and i seem to have trouble with difficult routes for some reason.

i like slopers and am good with them. I climb alot of slabs (my partner love the things) so i get good at them but i am so scared of the things!! i dry my hards to never lead them so i think thats my weeknes, balls on slabs, that and long cruxs, theres a 10b at our craig, that has no crux the hardest move it 10b, the easiest it 10a, its a pump athon and a half and i suck at stuff like that,

Let's see: weak at slopers, weak at individual tough moves, weak at endurance, weak at slab, weak at placing passive pro, weak at going far above my pro, weak at using my feet, weak in the gym, weak at bouldering, weak at onsights. strengths? uhh... I like to climb. That's about it. And I have a weird affinity for cracks.

Let see... that's a good hook, let me bite.
Strengths :- Trust in the system - implicit faith in Belayer
- Delicate footwork - friction
- willing to work, work, work a route
Weaknesses:- dislike for runouts
- Can't dyno well
- Below average height 5'8" - cant reach crap

My biggest advantage is small hands, great for cracks, and tiny lips on crimpers and such, and i have great balance, My biggest disadvantages are I'm short about 5'4" and i need to build up alot more arm strength, so i suck at campusing and such , some day... lol ~*Kira*~

My biggest advantage is I can "suck it up" and break new ground, I scare myself into stubbornly climbing harder. My biggest disadvantage is I get freaked out completely, when I'm not able to just "suck it up" and even will walk away from a climb to do something else. One extreme of the other, Jeff

My weaknesses are: - anything overhanging, I don't care if it's 5.2 overhanging - SLOPERS - constantly forgetting to use my legs instead of my arms - getting way deep in chimneys & then getting scared to come out (always end up facing outward, which sucks) - a disappearing fear of heights that still kicks in sometimes, especially when there isn't much to hold onto. My strengths: I'd say good flexibility is my best asset, and I'm not bad at frictiony slabs, but I'm not up for leading them yet. I think I'm going to be good at cracks but haven't tried enough to be sure. If I can get my hands jammed in a crack, I'm a happy happy person.

Weakness: Endurance-no matter how much I climb my endurance always sucks. Not the greatest at juggy overhanging stuff but I do like to pull roofs. Strengths: Dynos Crimps I love slabs And the willingness to go for it even when I am pumped.

My advantage: my mind. I am logical, mechanically inclined, and can recite the geometric formula for the constant-angle cam profile from memory. I can tie knots with either hand, and can invent - on the fly - anchors systems that scare my partners to death. My disadvantage: my body. It's thin, spindly, unable to run a 9-minute mile and can only do 12 pull-ups when I don't have a rope or rack attached to me. On a wall, the pig usually hauls me, and not the other way around.

My biggest weakness are slab climbs that are full of micro crimpers "you know the ones that hurt you finger tips to think about them". My only oter weakness are big roof's, a couple of years ago befour the big slack off I could pop off a roof problem with no problem but now any roof climb above about 5.10d seems to kill me. Everything else is a strong point!! DaggerX

Things that are Good: I have very small hands, meaning I can match and switch on small holds, not know the grief of mono-pockets and sliver crimpers as they don't often exist for me, and I can stuff my hands into "fingertip" cracks all the way down to the palm For some reason I mantle and layback a lot too. I really like those moves, they work for me. And tenacity. I will fling myself at a route forever until one of us is beat into a bloody ugly pulp of submission The route sometimes wins, but not often I am all for the Pyrrhic victory if that's what it comes down to Things that are Not So Good: Slopers, reachy or dynamic moves (I am quite static). I have no balance but this usually affects me more on the approach if it's steep or uneven (I am the Slowest Hiker Ever, with the surefootedness of a cat... a cat with 3 legs ). I am also going to exhaust my height excuse until my last breath I am 5'3, yes taller than Lynn Hill, but with about .10% of the mutant strength and flexibility

My greatest strength is plain old stubborness. I have never given up on a route yet. I've found from that the rest; endurance, technical skill, etc., comes in due time. My greatest weaknesses are slopers and I get very sketchy when leading new routes.

Weakneses: slopers, im terrible at them. sometimes i get bored easy, so i dont always want to climb...id say thats a weakness. sometimes i get scared and say i cant do it, and i usually dont. Strenths: clipping in, wiht my left hand i can do it so fast. i love climbing sometimes when i get scared i love it and i get to the crux and being scared makes it easy. i dont know what else.

Great thread! I AM STRONG: Cracks and crimpers, Not too scared to run it out, not really afraid of heights anymore, I am pretty strong and lightweight. I HATE giving up on something I've committed to. I know ropework and safety pretty well. I AM WEAK: slopers for sure, have trouble trusting my gear, am frieking slow at placing passive gear (i mean sloooooww). These things as well as a number of very obvious character flaws which I am sure I don't need to point out.

Advantages: I can nail crimpers and small hand holds pretty well. I can hit a good rythem with linked static moves by using my momentum. I will try a route over and over and over and over again until I get it. Slabs. I LOVE slab climbing. Except for that whole skin graft thing that you need if a foot slips and you grate your way down the rock. Disadvantages: OVERHANGS. Overhangs SUCK the life out of me. I keep my arms straight, I use my feet, and they still whoop my butt. Dynos. I'm a very static climber, so dynos are alien to me. Peace! Brian

Well, I'm good at crimpers, have good balance, am pretty good at liebacking, am pretty good at ascending crevices of certain widths, and have above average strength for a girl my age. My greatest strength is probably that I'm just plain stubborn on the walls. I need to work on my dynos, getting my feet on higher hold, using my legs more, and it wouldn't hurt to increase my shoulder, arm, and finger strength. I also need more experience outside the gym. Interesting topic. [ This Message was edited by: squirrelgirl on 2002-08-27 11:26 ]

Advantage? Low End Torque, I am able to do 10 one arms with either arm (max),and regular pull-ups with a friend on my back (160 pds max). Disadavantage? My hands and forarms are relatively weak, and I'm 5'4".
