The recent "Rope snaps in low FF gym fall" thread got me wondering about rope manufacturers.. Just out of curiosity.. who actually make BD ropes? I know that the manufacture of the rope matters little if it was damaged after purchase, but as I have been led to believe.. there are only 9 -10 actual rope manufacturers and the rest are just branded for distribution.
Beal Blue Water Edelweiss Esprit Edelrid Mammut Maxim / New England PMI Sterling
Did I miss any?

BD no longer distributes ropes under their own company name. They now distribute Beal ropes for US sale. The ropes formerly branded as BD were made by someone else. Beal or PMI maybe? I don't remember.

In reply to: The ropes formerly branded as BD were made by someone else. Beal or PMI maybe? Might have been both if I remember right. Beal ropes are very easy to spot. Just have a look at the impact force and stretch values.

In reply to: Metolius has Lanex make ropes to their spec. i dont think they make specific metolious ropes. i think its just an ordinary rebranded rope. btw lanex ropes are now sold under their own tendon brand, since the company lanex produces much more than just rope, they are among the biggest czech chemical companys. and it has been said to me that they have the most technically advanced rope production line, because they are not just some small climbing company, but rather a big chem one. qwert

I think the specs are different, and I didn't think Lanex had the woven markers near the rope ends. Not that I ever see Lanex brand ropes out here. I think Yates has ropes made to their spec as well.
