coming home from skaha last weekend, i was listening to some old reggae discs, particularily, jimmy cliff's "the harder they come". Now i know that most folks think that marley was the schit when it came to reggae, but i think jimmy cliff was the man. I hate to date myself, but back in 1982 i saw cliff and peter tosh in concert. I think it was the best concert i ever attended. what are your reggae favorites. I'm also a big toots and the maytals fan.

I saw Jimmy Cliff back in the 80's, too! The guy was a veritable dynamo on stage, in perpetual motion and, yes, it was a great show! BTW, he sure is a little guy, isn't he!?! True, Marley was the king of reggae and this month did mark the 25th anniversary of his untimely death. However, Gregory Isaacs has rated right up there as well. AND I'm a huge fan of Burning Spear.

I saw Jimmy Cliff perform. He was really good. I'm big into Steel Pulse, Maytals, Burning Spear, Peter Tosh, Gregory Isaac, Papa Levi, Lady Saw, etc. . .I'm also big time into Dub like Quango, Thievery Corporation, High Tones, Burning Babylon and many more. Check out the dub.com podcast. They stream some great mixes on that site. What I love about Reggae is that there is so much diversity in just that one genre. I've never been a big Marley fan maybe because the Marley's are pretty mainstream but they do have some good sound for sure.

Ever see Burning Spear in concert? They converted me into a Reggae lover after seeing them at Reggae on the Rocks in 04. No one tops Steele Pulse in my book though. I'm listening to dub.com dubcast # 2 right now. Sooooo gooooddddd.

I still love the Specials, Selecter and the English Beat. Not exactly exactly reggae, but what a sound. I caught Burning Spear in Paris a couple years ago. They were le shit! Somehow I think an outdoor show would have been even better, partly 'cause the Parisians mix "le shit" with tabac so the smoky ballroom felt a little confining (cough, cough) An de rub-a-dub tip, don' f'git mistah Lee Perry, nah! Plus my neighbor Steve puts together some killer dub . . . he hand-made one of those spring-loaded noisemakers like you hear on old Sly & Robbie tracks . . . hard to describe - some kind of spring-echo deal. Cool!

Big Youth, Steel Pulse, Black Uhuru, Bunny Wailer, U-Roy, Gregory Isaacs and LKJ, Eek-A-Mouse are some of my personal favorites. Jimmy Cliff has some great music esp. The Harder They Come soundtrack but most of his newer music that I have heard is pretty lame. Great to know there are other Reggay fan/climbers out there.

Oh yeah! loves me some Reggae. although I am more of a Skinhead Reggae/ Rocksteady/ Ska (NOT the Save Ferris type) sort of man. Was on the street team for a Gregory Isaacs show in Hawaii and got to go backstage. Unfortunately, he was taken away by INS after the show for some odd reason... I dunno, It was a reggae show, what sort of condition do you think I was in??? Favorites: Bob (duh), alpha Blondy, Gregory Isaacs, Peter Tosh, Black Uhuru, Souljahs, Ziggy Marley, Inner Circle (not for just "Cops"!), Aswad, Toots and the Maytails ( I was gonna name a route "Pressure Drop"), Big Mountain... Hmm more recent stuff? Damien Marley is pretty good. Welcome to Jamrock has a sick bassline Matisyahu kicks some ass. Aggrolites new album is amazing! Northern soul+Skinhead reggae! Go Jimmy Go, Deal's Gone Bad, Hepcat, Eastern Standard Time, Westbound Train..
