I'm getting into aid climbing - doing my first wall next week with my boyfriend - and I'm looking at getting a bivy sack. My boyfriend is recommending I get a Bibler but after some of my own internet research I'm leaning towards the ID Salathe. I'm one of those really cold females! Any recommendations from experienced users?

My extensive experience sleeping in bivy sacks (NOT on big walls - usually mountaineering) has tought me that there is one really nice feature to look for - partial side zipper. Mine (Moonstone Not-A-Tent) is perfect in all other areas, but getting in and out of it is a bitch if you have limited space (ie snow cave). A 2 foot zipper down one side like I've seen on some other bivies (Integral Designs comes to mind) would greatly help this. Also, it would make it easier to change into and out of clothes inside the sack. Just something for you to consider.

Anyone else have info on bivy sacks? I would think having poles(bibler tripod) would be a pain while climbing. Any help?

I just ordered a Bibler tripod. By doing some research it will fit my needs the most. I like the fact that you have a bit of head room the pole design allows. It's suppose to be bulletproof too! Check out biblertents.com. Goodluck!! [ This Message was edited by: coreyr on 2002-09-17 06:34 ]

You definitely want to be able to remove all of the poles if you're going to be using the bivy on a portaledge. I'm assuming this is the case with the Tripod.
