Are Black Diamond Camalot juniors any good? Just let me know about your won experience as they seem a little bit slimsy.
Thanks

Are you asking about the new C3 or the old micro cams?

I have the old ones and I have never had any problems with them. Me and my partners have been climbing with them since they first came out. They have worked great for me.

I've used Camalot juniors (#.5 and #.75) since the early 90's, and I don't think I've ever considered them "slimsy".

I will assume you're questioning the juniors with a U-shaped cable frame (open end of the U attached to the cam axle; curved middle of the cable covered by a black plastic piece, then slung with sewn nylon sling). It's an extremely rare day of trad climbing in Colorado that I don't place my juniors somewhere -- I own two of both sizes, but generally climb with only one of each size. One pair is probably 10 years old, the newer pair maybe 7-8 years old. The units still function extremely well. I clean & lube them regularly and all 4 units have been re-slung at Black Diamond's factory (due to wear and age of the nylon slings).

Newer units have a little smoother action, a nicer feel, and a narrower head, but I can't justify spending money to replace toys which still work well for me. My only gripe about the juniors is the way the sewn sling sometimes doesn't slide well on the black plastic "thumb piece" -- it can hang up on the edges of the plastic. This is a fairly minor gripe, though, and it hasn't caused any problems during a climb.

Yes, BD .5 and .75 are two of the most useful cams I probably own. I climb at Eldo all the time and ALWAYS use them. Whenever someone would ask me about starting a trad rack, I would tell them to buy a purple and green to start out if thats all they can afford now. The new C4's are really nice, butter smooth action.

I wouldn't consider .5 and .75 small.

The .3 and smaller, now you're on to something.

I don't like the teeny ones as much as more flexible offerings from other companies.

I just got the .5 and .75 C4's all with 1 2 3 and they are bomber. I use the .5 and .75 alot. I'd probably double up on these two sizes
