For years I've wondered how long it would take for boulderers to start making their way down to these more obscure area's in the Gorge. That place is truely awesome!

So which trail leads to the most concentration of good blocks? I've seen some nice stuff below the Conley Cove Trail and understand there are better concentrations. Anything below the Spence Ridge Trail?

The most boulders are generally from Conely Cove north.

I've seen you guys down there this year while we've been climbing a bunch of sweet new routes just up the hill (from the big mushroom shaped boulder just on the river side). :righton:

word. dude its a long hike in and a hard hike out with a pad and gear (which is necessary), but the bouldering down there could bring an international scene. everything ive been is classic and the access issues are climber friendly if ur familiar with the area

Oh and Nate, we did make it down to the River Crag last Sunday. It was hot and we dehydrated ourselves on those badassed lines! Can't wait to return.

We usually go down spence ridge trail. There are some boulders just upstream from the bridge, but mostly we hike downstream on Rivertrail til the trail gets close to the river again(just below linville river crag). This is upstream about 6 minutes from CCove trail. The boulderfield goes all the way back up to the spence ridge trail, but best/most concentrated/easiest to get to are pretty much just below Nathan's routes. Where you can easily access river is the lower end of the boulderfield and as you go upstream there's more and more, but farther you go, harder it is to get around. Best area is from big mushroom boulder(below camping cave on trail) up/downstream 2-300 yards. About fifty good boulders climbed on so far.
The other area we've frequented is to hike down Devil's Hole trail to the river. River trail is high on other side of river, but sitting bear side of river is pretty easy to navigate up and down with crash pads. Downstream are lots of cool boulders, and a lot of easy to moderate stuff. Upstream, if you walk a couple hundred yards up to where the river turns a bend, a boulderfield starts and continues all the way to Babel's Tower. This stuff is realllllllly good, lots of easy and moderate, but also endless sick stuff, the kind of lines that will make you go home with a low opinion of yourself. I like this area the best and it's a little more off the beaten trail of hikers, drunken swimmers and people taking pictures of 'mountaineers'. Good camp sites, a few good water sources, and endless rock, in the woods as well as along the river.
