What would be the best way to get into aid climbing? I'm already experienced with trad climbing, and now i just need to know how to get started.

Read technique, go with someone to practice technique, start easy.

I'm right there with you james. I'd like to get into it as well and i've started doing a lot of reading. First i've started with the "How to" from the climbing series on Big Walls. It has been very informative and i'm really learning a lot. Now all I need is another set of Cam's and someone to be my belay slave on what i'm sure will be some long learning sessions.

Jamesellis, I am in the same spot, although slightly ahead for having spent three weeks searching and reading through old Aid climbing posts while I should have been working. I have chosen to use a Russian Aid system. http://www.rockclimbing.com/topic/8418 Since no one makes them in North America yet (anymore) you have to make them yourself, but that makes it less expensive. KungFu Climber has an excellent and well illustrated article on how to make your own Russian Aiders: http://www.rockclimbing.com/....php?p=347584#347584. I just finished mine. Been bounce testing them in the basement. Hope to get out on some Granite this weekend. I am also planning on using a self belay system. Self Belay is often used in aid climbing so it is worth knowing, and the advantage is that you do not have to convince someone to sit there belaying you for hours. You just have to have someone around to rescue you if you get in trouble, so if some of your trad climbing buddies are climbing on a nearby route you are good. Here are some useful links for self belay: http://www.rockclimbing.com/....php?p=329232#329232 http://www.rockclimbing.com/...pic=2062&forum=40&30 This advice is all little wall theory as I have only had one brief bit of aid climbing experience: http://www.rockclimbing.com/topic/115333 Teth
