What goes through your mind when you see someone on a route hanging there cussing at the route, Kicking it or screaming at it? I think it is quite funny. [ This Message was edited by: michaelmay513 on 2002-08-31 10:24 ]

I think it has its moments but If you think about the name there giving to the sport and other climber it kinda ticks me off. I mean cursing is not necessary nor does it shoe maturity. Yes I am 18 and saying that. Its just not cool and like I have read in other forums, magazines, books and have seen the looks climbers get by someone walking by with there children it makes people dislike climbers which hurts those who just enjoy the rock, even when it throws them off. I don't like people yelling while climbing, but I must say that I do it myself! When I need some energy or when I'm really fed up with a route, I sometime scream and insult it. i shouldn't, it bothers my partners, but sometimes it's helpful for me! Sorry about that!

man, who the hell cares? If some other dude is having a hard or scary climb, let him cuss! Any skin off your nose? Didn't think so. Cussing, just like alot of other things people do when they are afraid, is just another way of trying to project that fear into (often very useful) anger, which is cool by me. I cuss a fair bit when I am cruxing out on a scary lead or some other situation. I know I'd be damn pissed if people were at the bottom complaining about my language.

There's a guy who boulders at my gym who throws hissy fits when he can't stick a move. Even though he's on a second-story loft, around the corner, the whole gym can hear his primal screams and the thunking sounds of him whomping on the wall. (if you're lucky enough to be up there when it happens, you can watch him kick pads and chalk bags around as he storms out.) Passion is good, really, but no need to go homicidal because a little piece of orange plastic shut you down I am not impressed, anyway

Raving on big walls is a fine American tradition.

I myself am a mutterer while I climb. Unless I take a big whipper, then I usually scream for my life. Then I remember that I'm tied in.

there is one route I cuss at whenever I try to send it. I do not however get angry about it and start kicking stuff or the rock, I just cuss at it. and since the place is a tourist attraction I normally have a crowd to hear my complaints as well, and it usually includes children D

I never assault the route. Kicking, or hitting the rock is just plain stupid. I would much rather save my energy to kick some.... However, I am trying to clean up my potty mouth. Here is an explanation:
- Falling (two syllables)
- Sh!! (one syllable)
- Bugga' (two syllables)
- Aggggghhhhh (one or two - depending on whipper)
Yes, I need to clean it up. I won't deny this. I agree, children should not learn profanity from climbers!! They can always learn it from television, school, and even Parents. G'ahead shelter all you can, but unless they are determined (themselves) to be good.... it will never happen! I am still laughing about the LDS culture in Utah that 'edited' the Titanic to exclude the sex scenes, so their children can watch it. It's ok to let them see people dying, but not some pretty-tame love making? On the "Tonight Show", Jay Lenno told me I could get the resulting 'cuts' as Titanic (just the dirty parts)... anyone know where?? edited:spelling [ This Message was edited by: k9rocko on 2002-08-31 18:31 ]
