i went to the gym today and the problem that i had been working on for a month was gone  they didnt take any of the problems that i can do, nope, just my project. i was so dissapionted. i was one move away from finishing. i guess ill just have to find something else to work on. i spose that happens all the time, they take them down put new ones up. i was just so close. grumble. ok. rants over. edit-(omg. i just realized i have become a boulderer?....never thaught that would happen. i guess i had better get back outside. - hey kevin, you wanna climb this weeknd?)

Bummer. When I used to set, I had a "tentative take down date" listed on the route guide. this way our members knew how long they had. Also, if it was a popular climb or if members asked to keep it, it would stay up longer.

You can also ask the setters/managers/owners to put up a 'Coming Down Soon' on the starting hold tape, before they come down.

Still, even with these options it's difficult to please everybody. At our gym, if the setters listened to everyone who had a project they were "just one move away from finishing" then no routes would ever come down and it would get really stale. Just try to remember that when your project gets taken down, it's just making room for what could be even a better project. Unless your gym sucks then that's just lame. Just on a side note, I've never had a problem with "them" taking a route down outside :D

In reply to: Unless "they" chip it  generally speaking, someone is going to chip their proj, not yours. unless you're both gunning for the same FA, but i doubt our gymrat friend will have that problem right away.
