I don't know. The Caltrans site shows no hwy closures. If you hear anything could you post it here? I'll check back tomorrow before I head up there.

any climbers at williamson today have status report?

AZUSA, Calif. (AP) — A wildfire spread rapidly across 3,000 acres of national forest Sunday, sending thousands of holiday campers fleeing.

The fire was burning in the Azusa Canyon area of the Angeles National Forest about 30 miles east of Los Angeles.

About 7,000 to 8,000 campers were told to evacuate campgrounds.

Sorry for the late post.

Spoke with someone that was at Williamson today (Sunday, 9/1). They could smell smoke
in the area but no closures. I think it rained. Possible road closure on the way to MtBaldy

Updates on the "Curve" fire, including road closures can be found here: http://www.r5.fs.fed.us/angeles/incident/curve/summary.html

As of 6 pm Tue 9/2/02, the fire was 0% contained and Hwy 2 was still closed both east and west of Williamson.

As of 6 pm Wed 9/3/02, the fire was 10% contained and Hwy 2 was still closed both east and west of Williamson.

9 am Wed 9/4/02. The fire reached Hwy 2 Tue. night, but did not cross it (yet?). The fire was 15% contained. Slightly cooler temps. and higher humidity may help firefighters today. Hwy w is still closed both east and west of Williamson.

9 am Thu 9/5/02. Firefighters have put out hot spots on the north side of Hwy 2 in area about 1 mi. east of the fire. The fire is still only 15% contained. "The Curve Fire investigation team has concluded that candles associated with a ritual involving the use of fire and animal sacrifices started the fire."

9 am Sat 9/7/02. 45% contained. Hwy 2 still closed east and west of the crag.
