You like getting paid when you work, right? Why don't you pay for them? Do you think someone made them for nothing and with no effort? Stop stealing.

In reply to: well f--- boy i would if they werent 29 and i can only find them online...kinda hard with no credit card and yest i do believe in getting paid for my work, but not my hobbies and i'm sure they'd like to get paid for their work, too...so suck it up buttercup. give the online retailer a call and see if they'll allow payment by check, or go to a local retailer and see if they'll order one for you so you can pay with cash.

Oh boy, this could get bad. No one should steal anything. But they do. Nothing we can do to stop someone with ambition. The best thing to do if you don't agree with his request is to ignore it. Of course that won't happen. So good luck with the argument, I'll be laughing while I watch the posts!

Just buy your crap. Even buring DVD from friends I would call Bull $hit on. It's not like these guys get 20,000,000 to make a movie.

In reply to: Save your breath, read the topic title again, then the OP's first response. i know. i read them the first time around, too. i just felt like continuing the dogpile and pointing out the flaws in the OP's logic. besides, just because we can assume the OP's attitude/reason won't change doesn't mean that we should necessarily just let it slide by. i chose not to. my payment/retailer comment was to refute In reply to: and i can only find them online...kinda hard with no credit card

if you're going to be a cheapass, that's fine. if you're going to pirate the movies, go do your thing. but i don't think you should be associating this site with this sort of thing. and though napster didn't bankrupt metallica, you have to remember that climbing videos don't exactly have a high distribution. why do you think they cost so damn much? if you're broke to where you can't afford the vids, then i think that getting ahold of them is the least of your worries.

Now go keep your piracy to yourself  Edit, I agree with ahwoo about posting this sort of thing here. Personally, I think the site might do well to try to discourage this sort of thing.

In reply to: come on now, napster didnt bankrupt metallica, this piracy s--- is overrated Gosh, I wish I lived in a world where climbing video manufacturers could tour and give concerts and sell associated merchandise and not rely soley on the sale of their videos to a microscopic audience to pay their bills. Downloading products you haven't paid for is still theft. Its just the big production houses that can sustain that kind of harm to their business. If you're gonna steal, at least sack up and find a physical copy to steal, not just a digital file online.

Piracy is something that has a set of rules within itself. In order to be a responsible pirate you need to ask yourself a few questions. Will your actions mean more money for the people you think deserve money if you do buy it? Do you have the money? Is the company/people involved making enough money to get by? Do you want to support this company/the people for the work they do? Am I willing to pay that much? I usually answer all these questions before deciding whether to pirate or buy. It usually means I can download old movies, new blockbuster movies that turned a profit and Cd's from artists I maybe will listen to a couple of times or don't really enjoy. It also means most things I would normally buy from a retail store (due to the insignificant amount of effect I have on demand), and any movie that is clearly making enough money is fair game. So what isn't really fair game under these criteria? Small companies whose success is very closely related directly to the success of a smaller amount of movies, artists I love and who I think deserve the money, and things that are reasonably priced that I will enjoy. Honestly, They are a small company in a small sport that many people consider their life's passion (and will risk their life doing so). Support the companies, support them because they support the athletes and made the movie. Where would your hobby be without them? Oh yeah, using Iron biners, sneakers, rope harnesses and silk ropes sounds like fun to me too. Also thinking that only 2 or 3 people in the world can climb 5.12a's because you only know two is a wonderful plan too. If you're going to spend your money somewhere, why not support your hobbies, the stuff you truly enjoy?

Pay up. No stealing. Pay. You are not entitled to anything for free.

In reply to: In reply to: um...no. they're two entirely seperate things. Okay, you've managed to pique my curiosity. How do you define theft/robbery and piracy? if i steal your car, you can't drive it. if i rob you of your climbing rack, you longer have it. if i pirate a movie that you own, the original hasn't gone anywhere. i know pirates back in the day stole things, but digital piracy--copying and sharing of files--is not the same thing. i'm not saying it's right or wrong, just that it's not the same thing as stealing. it should not be treated the same. is picketing a business or boycotting someone theft? those both can cause someone to lose potential business.
