Gunks.com is a one man operation. And while I haven't spoken with Evan in over a month, when we last spoke he was in good spirits, good health, and there was no hint of any trouble in paradise. Let's all hope he is adventuring somewhere well off the beaten path, unaware the site is down, and that both he and gunks.com will be back soon.

He had just made a big round of changes to the site, and he seemed to be excited at a new revenue stream to support the site. I sure hope Evan didn't change his mind and pull the plug. It's a superb resource.
In reply to: Let's all hope he is adventuring somewhere well off the beaten path, unaware the site is down, and that both he and gunks.com will be back soon. I hope so, but a few things make me think it's not inadvertent: 1 - The front page has been redirected. You don't get an error, you get a page with the URL, and that's all. Someone put that page into place. 2 - I know Evan has a coder who works for him. If there was a simple issue and Evan was unavailable, I'm sure the guy would be able to deal with it. 3 - It's been what, four, five days now? GO

One thought - the site went down after severe weather hit the northeast. Perhaps a server took a direct hit and crashed hard enough that it will take time to recover? I've called Evan and I'm waiting for a return call, but in the meantime, the GCC website, gunksclimbers.org is down too, since it's hosted by gunks.com (I'm the webmaster). Jannette

Maybe it was a ninja attack on the servers by theuberfall.com?

GO Evan was making changes to the forums and the partner request area, but that shouldn't have affected the main site. And as Cliff Mama says, the GCC site is down as well. If Evan got sick of us and took a well earned break, I don't blame him. But I hope all is well and they get whatever the issue might be restored and the site back online. -T

As I surmised, Evan is off adventuring. Reportedly, an effort is being made to get the site back up in his absence. Until gc.com is back, addicts are directed to the nearest methadone clinic.

Evan is back. Gunks.com was hacked while he was away. His server company recognized something was amiss, shut the site down, and put up the simple page with the URL. The site should be up and running again by the end of the week, although a week or so of forum postings may be lost.

Ditto, thanks for the update. What a drag for him. Must be a mess to deal with now. Hope he didn't get blacklisted by all the Net servers. If so, hopefully he has another IP address he can use. If you're in touch, let him know he has our sympathies. All of you who miss the site - please remember when he puts into place the button that'll let you donate if you like. :) GO
