ok, so check it out. I was climbing at red rock canyon outside of colorado springs this weekend, and the funniest thought passed through my mind. Red Rock Canyon is something like 90% slab, and the highest rating is something in the high 11's, low 12's. So I got to thinking, can a slab route difficulty actually approach 5.14? It just sort of seems to me that as far as slabs go, being naturally smooth surfaces, there would be a point where 5.12's, 5.13's and 5.14's would become indistinguishable from each other, minus differences in subjective climbing style. A better climber may call it 5.12 while a not as good climber may swear it should be 5.14.
I guess my main question is any of you who have been on super high rated slabs do you think the rating is exact, or could it fluctuate?
