Val di Mello is one of the best climbing spots in the Alps. it offers everything, from bouldering to multipitch trad, all set in a really beautifull enviroment.
As Paolo75 reported, an italian electrical company has revived some old plans to dam the valley to produce electricity. That would pretty much destroy the valley (and climbing as well).
Im reposting this here because i (and some others) feel that this is an issue beyond eurofreaks and affects the climbing community as a whole. Just to give you some idea of whats at stake, here are some pictures:

Folks, please help us out on this one.
It would be fantastic to see some 'USA' signatures up there!
VDM also has one of the largest bouldering gatherings in Europe each year - there is a video on the Petzl site if you're interested:

Signed though I am not quite sure what it 'sez. I'll trust that this was a petition to save a climbing area and not a petition to fill the place with water. Good luck guys.

I've climbed there a lot, and yes it is paradise! whether you climb or not.
Therefore, I don't believe they are going to do it. What a landscape destruction that would be. Just the idea is totally crazy and insane.
If they'd do it, a lot of good climbing would remain there nevertheless.
Anyway, to protect the place it's worth chaining yourself to a piece of granite there. And I'd think a lot of people would stand tall to fight it.
