I'm not as old as you might think either. I'm young enough to not remember life before MTV, but I'm old enough to remember when it still played music.

So you lack age along with all your other failings. That ain't a reason to brag there Barney.

[quote:fa4ebbfff3="dingus"]The situation as described seemed reasonably benign to me. Kudos for questioning their anchor. "Old Fart' for asking if their parents knew what they were up to, boooo!

Kids today? You think kids today are any different than any other kids in any other time? You seriously believe that?

Here is a picture of my (then) 7 year old being belayed by my 12 year old...

[img:fa4ebbfff3]http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/4973/KaityPose.jpg[/img:fa4ebbfff3]

Note the terrifying angle of the anchor, omg, she's gonna die. And you can't really see it, but swear to god she's wearing selt belt webbing as a harness.

I think those girls you met were/are awesome. I see no reason not to warn them about their anchor, well done. But going on to imply they are stupid and lazy is a sure sign you own several pairs of underwear that are older than those climbers you met.

Just wondering if this is the same trip that where you posted a picture of yourself at the bottom of a cliff with beer cans all around you and some of the cans spelled SOS?? Was the SOS for you or your kids??

BTW....buy your kids some harness cheapskate

There is a technical term for this, Learned Helpless Behavior. It's like Type 2 diabetes, easy to prevent but once you've got it, you have it forever.
For some, this is unfortunately true. But others respond well to early and vigilant treatment.

Where can I get one of those? I don't need it for climbing though.

Probably Harrods. This one guy tested the "you can get anything at Harrods" slogan one time and ordered a baby elephant, it showed up on his doorstep a week later.

If you want to teach your kids unsafe practices and get them killed, that's your prerogative, you probably didn't have any business procreating in the first place. Oh well, back to the Darwinian Theory...

Since when is youth a failing? Whatever. I wasn't trying to brag about it, just stating a fact. You called me an old fart, I told you I'm not that old. Either way you attempt to make an insult out of it. You're useless.

Now, where did I put my bullet...

It's unfortunate but thats just how stupid teenage girls are these days. With the exceptions of MOST of the ones that climb, they are just that stupid. It's like someone just sucked common sense and intelligence out of their heads with a bendy straw. I would trust my life to a monkey with its head half way up its ass than trust 98 percent of the girls age 10-20. Its a degrading generation that im forced to live with. Just more reasons i dont date..... BTW they were probably little rich girls who went out and bought a grigri with money from daddy.

This kid's a winner.

Hey iceman how did you learn to climb, because some of us read a book or two and began taking baby steps just like those girls.

You should have seen some of my t.r. anchors

But hey live and learn or dont live.

Maybe we should all hire guides for our first ten forays onto real rock, or maybe just stay in the gym forever.

Climbers, please be willing to be corrected when you're wrong. And if you'r ebeing corrected, PLEASE hear the other climber out. They might be full of crap, but they may know something you don't. Either way, it's worth a listen. You end up correcting them or they end up correcting you. But I'd rather be embarassed or corrected than dead.

hosh.

Trophy.

ditto.

i'm always interested to hear other people's opinions on my setups, and their point of view. ESPECIALLY if it's something safety related.

when i see something unsafe in another climber, or another party, my standard opening line is "do you mind i point out something that makes me a little nervous about your setup?" and based on their reaction, either point it out, and the proper fix, or get out of there.
like someone said, if they don't want your help, they don't want your help...
