I used 1/2 inch webbing on the two new hooks I just bought, because that is all I had around that would fit. However, next time I order hooks I will also order something to sling them with, so I am interested in what the concessions turns out to be. Teth

BD hooks thread okay with 9/16 climb spec, but you have to be pretty committed to get your leeper cam hooks slung on the stuff. 1/2 might work better for cam hooks. or even 9/16 mil spec.

It is tough to get the 9/16 climb spec in the cam hooks, but you can do it with some needlenose pliers. Do you need 9/16 in them? Not really. They probably won't see a load that 1/2 webbing couldn't handle. The Climb Spec will wear longer though.
