I like the Tower. Vedauwoo is cool to but you will probably get a lot more climbing in a short amount of time at the Tower. The routes at the Tower are looooong. Vedauwoo is more spread out too. The Tower is like shooting fish in a barrel. Climb a classic, rap, move two cracks over, do another. The approaches are short too. I walked from Bigwally's place to the base of Soler and El Cracko in 35 minutes. That included signing in and B.S.ing with the climbing ranger. Also the cracks are much more friendly on your skin.

In reply to: ok, So I'm looking to do a road trip and its been narrowed down to Vedauwoo or Devils Tower. So what are the pros and cons of each?? Vedauwoo: Pro: Hard powerful routes, crack climbing, endless routes of all grades. Bitchin' crack bouldering, free camping, proximity to real civilization (sort of), offwidths. Cons: Vedauwoo hurts a lot of peoples feelings, it's probably not your style (it's no-ones style), you'll bruise your hands, knees, elbows, and ego. Short routes but you probably couldn't handle them any longer. Devils Tower Pro: Beautiful long continous lines on pretty rock, no need to tape, excellent hard routes. Cons: Very few really good routes easier than 10b (a couple maybe), camping, park officials, harleys, tourists, repetetive, top 1/3 choss, and it gets old going up to the same rock every day I can't stay at the tower longer than 3 days without going batty.

I saw a picture of devils tower for the first time the other day. I would love to go there. I looked at all the routes at www.climbdevilstower.com, I think that was the webstie. Just wanted to say if you go to the tower, takes tons of photos. I'm jealous even though Donner and Lover's leap are so close to me.

Its actually www.devilstowerclimbing.com There are also a lot of routes listed in the route database HERE. If you are going this fall, Vedauwoo is at a higher elevation, which could make it a bit cooler. I'd like to go back to Vedauwoo, but whenever I'm in the area I always spend all my time at the Tower. You could do both, but if you have a limited amount of time the Tower is much easier to find your way around if you are unfamiliar with the area.

In reply to: Devils Tower has the Needles and Rushmore nearby - Combine all for a rockin' good time! EXACTLY! Did one day on the Tower, a "rest" day at Rushmore and then rained off the Tower on day three. Lots of info gathered for the next trip. definately hitting rushmore/ needles more on the next trip.

I was once that way. All three deserve separate trips IMHO. If you like clipping bolts Spearfish Canyon can be added to the list.

Angry breathes a sigh of relief knowing that yet another Colorado climber is ignoring one of the best crags in the world.
