I go to school in Chicago and my friends and I are making a road trip to the Fort Collins this weekend. I am super excited to do some climbing, because there is none in Chicago. My question is where are the best sport climbing areas around Fort Collins. I am willing to travel a little but to get to a great destination because this will probably be the last climbing i get to do before winter sets in.

Thanks

www.mountainproject.com

Boulder canyon is a great spot, but although I have never been, there is some climbing outside of the Saint Vrain which may be closer to FC.

There is some in estes park with a good guidebook on the places. Can't remember the name but it has a mostly black cover and I think it is volume 1 of a two vol. series.

Yep, those are pretty much your options for sport climbing in the area:

The Monastery: Mountain Project

Boulder Canyon: Mountain Project

and The Palace: Go to a gym to get the guidebook and directions. There is a little tiny bit of info at Mountain Project and a little bit here at RC.com.

If you're feeling really adventurous, Vedauwoo is only an hour a away. IMHO, it's one of the most beautiful, incredible places to climb in the country. And, there's a few bolted routes.

boulder canyon has got some great stuff if you want to do sport, but its kind of far away.

there is some great bouldering in Ft. Collins, I think its called sawtooth canyon or horse tooth canyon?

I haven't ever been to ft. collins but all of my friends that go to CSU talk about it all the time. Apparently its like 10 -15 mins from campus.

Forget climbing, there is some great beer drinking to be done.

Horsetooth reservoir is the place to climb around Ft Collins, its all bouldering though, and it is only about 10 minuets away from anywhere in the Fort.

If you want to clip bolts, the monastery is close, but because of the time it takes to drive up the dirt road and hike in it will take you just as long to go to Boulder. Boulder canyon has the added benefit of super short approaches and the ability to go to a different crag mid day if you wish.
