OK...so basically, im new to the sport, been climbing for a few months, and yes, its starting to take over my life, which i find great lol. just tonight, i saw something i really want to climb. only bad thing is that its a little monument in front of the rec center....i estimate its about 70ft, not a hard climb at all....but as dumb as it sounds, i really want to get to the top of it! my question is....is it illegal? i could really do without a misdemeanor being slapped on my record right before i apply for college. any help or suggestions would be appreciated. :D

Yeah, the liability is too crazy for whomever owns the building to let people climb it. Plus you also have to take into account you would have to downclimb the thing. But its not like I haven't climbed buildings under the cover of darkness. Just be ready for the consequences if there are any.

Dress all in black, wait until there is no moon and everyone is asleep in their beds. Then.... Attack, ninja style. That's what i'd do. Good luck.

Go for it. I climbed the U of Arizona parking garage - a sweet lay-back crack under the cover of darkness. we did have a look out though for the campus police and ..... it was awesome. Will post pics of that. what a rush.

You could just climb it and get arrested, like Alain Robert. That dude is sick, and just gets a fine or maybe a few days in jail. check out his website for some videos: http://www.alainrobert.com

If it doesn't say "No Trespassing" go for it and play dumb if the cops stop you. Better to do it in the wee hours, preferably after the application of proper mental lubrication.

In reply to: i could really do without a misdemeanor being slapped on my record right before i apply for college. I think everyone else covered the main issue. As an aside, I think you're taking the college application process a little too seriously. Unless you're applying for MBA school I doubt they're going to run a background check on you. Besides, you'll get plenty of misdemeanor Drunk in Publics once you're in school anyway. Stipulations of College.

Just because there isn't a sign posted doesn't mean that you can play dumb on a trespassing claim. Sign or not, the OP is intentionally entering the property of another without the permission of the property owner.

I'm pretty sure that colleges don't check for misdemeanors, just felonies. And just think, if you fall and kill yourself you'll have opened up a spot at whatever prestigious university has accepted you for someone smarter.

In reply to: Just Dean Potter it. Ah, you mean pretend not to know it's off-limits and bring a camera crew to document the whole thing?
