this is so loaded, i don't where to start. first, the title shoud be changed to "with the intention of insulting muslims". just change the signs to "(my distorted version of)Christianity will dominate", and ptc would be right in there. during the crusades, the muslim cheif salidin let all the people go when he captured jeruslem. when the christians returned the favor, they murdered every inhabitatnt. ptc, one's religion is not expressed by what they say, believe, or have read. it is revealed in every action that they take on this earth. and your bigitroy reveals you as one who hates his fellow human being, no better than the fanatics you purport to despise.

Not meaning to fan the flames of hate and prejudice but I personally think more than enough "evil" has been created by the dogma of most organized religions. Peace.

In reply to: The Roman Catholic pontiff expressed his regrets Sunday during the traditional Angelus blessing from the papal summer residence at Castel Gandolfo. It was his first public appearance since a controversial speech he gave in Germany last week. In the speech, the pope had quoted an obscure medieval text that criticised some teachings of the Prophet Mohammed as "evil and inhuman". Link

In reply to: For once I can agree, at least on this point, that the Pope's infallibly right. Look up the definition of 'infallible' and get back to us.

Link Whether the Pope's comments were quoted or not, he still said them. No world-leader can say what he said and expect there to be no repercussions--quoted or not.

In reply to: Whether the Pope's comments were quoted or not, he still said them. No world-leader can say what he said and expect there to be no repercussions--quoted or not. His Holiness quoted a Byzantine text that criticized some concepts of Mohammed's teaching.... For example, "his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached". He added ""Violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul." Yeah, I can certainly see how Muslims would be offended by someone saying that violence in the name of religion is a bad concept. And, just to prove the point: how, exactly, did the Muslims protest that comment? By killing a nun, firebombing churches, and inciting violence. But they're a religion of peace, after all, and the rest of the world should remember that. Or else.

My intentions weren't to defend the Pope (or Papal Infallibility for that matter... but that's another subject), but rather to highlight the stark differences between what the Pope said and how Pinky interpreted it.

Our presence in the Middle East has nothing to do with the Muslims taking offense whenever anyone questions Islam. Denmark didn't invade Iraq, Madriver. Neither did the Vatican. I'm there with you when it comes to telling the Muslims to piss off.... I'll toast that day when it comes (if I'm still alive.) But that has nothing to do with THIS situation.

In reply to: In reply to: At the risk of insulting Christians. Speaking of... Does anyone recall reading about the riots, violence, and killings when Muslims firebombed Christian Churches? Yeah, neither did I. Both revelation and delusion are attempts at the solution of problems. artists and scientist realize that no solution is ever final, but that each new creative step points the way to the next artistic or scientific problem. In contrast, those who embrace religious revelations and delusional systems tend to see them as unshakable and permanent...... Religious faith is an answer to the problems of life... The majority of mankind want or need some all- embracing belief system which purports to provide an answer to life's mysteries, and are not necessarily dismayed by the discovery that their belief system, which they proclaim as "the truth,' is incompatible with the beliefs of other people. One man's faith is another man's delusion... Whether a belief is considered to be a delusion or not depends partly upon the intensity with which it is defended, and partly upon the numbers of people subscribing to it. Anthony Storr Feet of clay Our Christian President does the same to innocent Muslim women and children every day.

So, in summary... Pope, quoting some 14th Century scholar: "Islam is evil because Islam spreads its religion by the sword." Muslims: "You have deeply offended the Muslim faith. We will kill you." I know that's only the Cliff Notes version--but irony just doesn't get any richer than that. Curt

Yeah, it does get just a slight bit richer: The Muslims firebombed a Greek Orthodox church, which split from the Roman Catholic church in... oh, the 12th century or so? They didn't even manage to attack the right church.

Exactly. I see it falls to you to be the voice of sanity once again Rasto. All men are violent. All men are dogmatic. Not just Christians. Not just Mulsims. Not just those who follow religion. I doubt that the solution to hate could be to hate back.

All I know is that they better not here of this or they will totally kill someone else.
