So anyone from Augusta around here? I might end up in the area next year. Trying to suss out some info on the local climbing scene. Is there any good climbing close, or epic climbing w/ in reasonable weekend trip distance? Specifically after good trad and possibly sport climbing. I'm affraid I'm not much of a boulderer.

Hey, I'm originally from Augusta Ga. Don't know of any climbing scene there, I've spent all of my climbing life living in Athens and Atlanta, but I'm sure you're relatively (3-5 hrs) close to Fosters or Sandrock or something. If there are things closer let me know, maybe I'd come home more often, haha.

Just have a look at a map and the routes DB. Curahee, Mt. Yonah, and Tallulah gorge are in Northeast GA within a couple hourse, and you can drive almost due north to upper SC and the NC highlands for the bigger stuff.

I grew up in Augusta and we used to go down by the Savannah River and boulder and TR some stuff there. That was 30 years ago. The River community in the location of the cliffs has grown out of sight. The closest climbing to you is either Tallulah Gorge in N. Georgia or Mount Yonah. There is a strong climbing community in Atlanta, but doubt there is much of one in Augusta. North Carolina is not very far away and has a ton of excellent climbing. Check out Looking Glass, Cedar Rock, Moore's Wall, WhiteSides, etc.
