Just curious -

Are there any elite climbers (5.14's, V11's, you know) that are more than 165lbs? What about Klem Loskot or Alex Huber? They look like some robust dudes.

I'm not planning on joining those ranks, I'm just wondering if I need to be cruzin' around on getaway sticks to be putting up bigger numbers.

bouldertoad;
I've never seen any footage / pics of Fred Nicol roped up! Seems almost a strange concept, that crazy haired freak can make v14's look like a leisurely warm up, but I've never seen him with a rope.
Would be interested to see some pics if you know of anywhere to view 'em.
Cheers,
Elk

My weight ranges from 180-190 and I a couple of years back befour I slacked off I could pull some 14ers now, im working my way back up I can climb a perty decent 5.13c/d but have not been able to nail any 14ers again yet. Give me 6 months.

Also I have a buddy who's weight is about 185 and he can lead a 14b/c and make it look easy.

In response to Fred Nicole roping up he completed a project called Bain de Sang that is 14d and Elf another 14+ I have pictures I just have to find them.
I was at hueco when he was working "Esperanza" and let me tell you he is an amazing guy to watch. He also is one of the coolest guys you will ever meet. He gave me some pointers and was just as psyched for me when I stuck a move I was struggling on as he was working his project. Great guy overall.

It's awsome, and refreshing to hear that a guy climbing so well is just as stoked for you when you get something too.
Seems climbers are generally like that... most of 'em. I've encountered some absolute pretentious d#^*s in my time too.
Everyone has a hero, and it's awsome when your hero is friendly, or even better... A FRIEND!
off the topic.. sorry. I'd be interested to see Fred with a harness and rope though.
Cheers

Of the truly elite climbers, I think more are heavier than you'd think, at least for their height. Not saying they're packing a lardass around but that they have signifigant muscle mass.

Klem Loskot I read or heard somewhere is like 180 or 190. Fred Nicole is certainly no shrimp. Chris Sharma may be thin but he's very very strong as well. John Dunne, as mentioned, is very strong and a "big guy."

Dunno about Malcolm Smith - Francois Legrand, Yuji Hiriyama and Dave Graham are all very thin however.

Plenty more I'm not mentioning, these are just the guys that sprang to mind.

I guess there is hope for my fat ass! I'm 5'7" and 194 but working down the weight slowly but surely, not to worry though, I'll still be benching ten quarters and above!

I'm impressed you've lead 5.14. Which ones have you done? Also, I don't know of many peeps who can make 5.14b/c look easy. Who IS this monster?
