So I haven't been to the dentist since I moved to Ontario  . In fact I have only ever been to one dentist, and that was back where I grew up in Nova Scotia. I really should go to the dentist again and get every things checked out....its covered through work so its not even money out of my pocket. But how does one choose a new dentist? Are there good dentists and bad dentists? Should I just start randomly calling ones in the Yellow Pages?

I'm really not sure, but it would suck ass to get a bad one. A la "little shop of horrors" style.

In reply to: In reply to: I'm really not sure, but it would suck ass to get a bad one. A la "little shop of horrors" style. You ain't just whistling Dixie. I've got a month of pain, a week of debilitating pain, a root canal and two bad fillings to prove it. I still have to go back to a different dentist to have things finished right, but I'm a little apprehensive, to say the least. -Joe So Joe, How did you go about picking the bad one?

if anybody needs them, i have recommendations for good dentists in denver, salt lake city, and rapid city. i've always had bad luck with dentists i've randomly tried, so now i only go to places i get recommendations for.

In reply to: I changed from a local dentist who my wife and I both thoroughly disliked. We picked the new dentist by looking for a different local one who took our insurance. He seemed OK based on cleanings, but then he turned out to be more money motivated than patient motivated. He basically ignored my complaints of severe pain after he replaced two of my fillings, then he wasn't in the office when the pain got too bad to bear. His "backup" wasn't working the weekend, and the backup's backup was on vacation. It was a general clusterf*ck. That's when I had to have the first of 3 root canal sessions. -Joe Bummer. :? At least Rebecca gets to try out wherever before I'll get to go.

If your work pays for it, the insurance company that your company goes through should have a list of dentists that will accept that company's insurance. Check with whoever is in charge of your dental insurance. Otherwise, I got mine from 1-800-dentist.

Too bad you are on the wrong border. There are some very good ones just over the Mexican border here. And the costs are very low too.

I tend to prefer women dentists for one single fact: they have smaller hands. I hate going to a guy dentist and getting huge maws (man-paws, that's a Taz-ism) poking around in my mouth. The dentist is traumatic enough without having my mouth stuffed with blue latex-covered meat. Hm. That may have sounded "off"... :? -Taz

Small hands. You want a dentist with small hands. Same advice for when it's time to look for a proctologist.

And to prove it, have the date somewhere in the pic, and not the one that the camera puts there. We'll need some origionality.
