maybe try Mountain Equipment Coop's SLIPSTREAM HOODIE? http://www.mec.ca/...&bmUID=1162587436098 may not be as lightweight as the R1, but i wear this jacket for almost everything. ~f

hey, i recently posted about the R1. I talked to a Patagonia representative who said that it was an officially discontinued item and wasnt going to be around at least for the winter season. the MEC hoody isnt a bad option, but there is also the Loki fleece pullover with a hood to check out. Loki is an interest company and i would love to know if anyone has tried any of their stuff. i am kicking myself for not buying a medium R1 either when i knew this would happen. oh well, hopefully they will make more soon! good luck finding an alternative, let me know what you end up with cause i am in the market for a fleece hoody too. cheers, Daniel

In reply to: But your luck is in, as this year, due to popular demand and badgering, Patagonia have brought back the R1 Hoody :) check again, I believe it was only recently re-released. -Magnus

They did recently release it. http://www.patagonia.com/..._GEAR.MENS.PULLOVERS From one of the Pagatonia videos of Steve House talking about the clothing he and Vince Anderson wore on the Rupal Face, House mentioned it was one piece of clothing he convinced Patgonia to bring back.

thanks for the info you guys. daniel, you said it won't be around for the winter. does that mean there are any hopes of them making more in the spring? if this is the case, then i will hold out for it, but im looking at other options now. thanks again for the help! -aaron

Aaron, I'd try giving Patagonia a call to find what you need. I was in the same position as you were a couple weeks ago: looking for a medium, and the website was listed as "sold out." But I called Patagonia and talked to a rep, and it turned out that they still had two mediums laying around. Probably returns or something like that.... Anyway, one of those two mediums is now in my hot little hands, but maybe you can get your paws on the other? Just make sure you speak to a Patagonia rep and not one of their out-sourced customer service people. Good luck, Alex

yea, the rep i talked to (who didnt mention those two mediums that alexnees found) said that patagonia didnt expect it to sell out soo fast and because of its popularity would most likely bring it back in either spring or fall of next year. He did however mention that as of right now it is a discontinued item (as in they are out of stock and not making more for this season) and that it could possibly stay discontinued. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they bring it back. Ebay has (or had, havent checked the status) one medium available but i didnt want to get into a bidding war with the large number of climbers (all with sharp crampons and ice axes) over it. A few people mentioned a wind pro hoody made by MEC which is supposedly good, but not as light (both in warmth and weight) as the R1. good luck, daniel

thanks alex. i just called patagonia and talked to a rep and she told me they were completely sold out. she also said they were all aware that the R1 is a sought after item, but they weren't going to continue making it into the next season. i asked why and she said they didn't feel it was necessary. so that blows, but i refuse to give up hope. but thanks a lot for your help. -aaron
