I'm new here and also very new to climbing. I need to know how to tie both the mountaineer's coil and the backpacker's coil. I've been searching all over but I can't find instructions to tie these coils. The only coil I know how to tie is the alpine coil. It would be very helpful if someone would give me detailed instructions on how to tie these coils. Thanks in advance. :)

consider a rope bag, then you won't have to coil and uncoil.

I prefer the butterfly coil to the mountaineer's because I find it tends to tangle less and can be modified to make a backpack coil. Also fits the straps on my pack nicely.

Great, so this shows up on the front page the morning AFTER I spent an hour trying to remember where I saw it...
