Well.
I logged into the Top Photos, I think my settings were to see the 50 top photos with 25 votes for the past month. It only displayed maybe a dozen pics. Even getting it to 10 votes only gets 15 or 20 shots. How about giving me a choice of 1 vote? 2 vote? Why must it receive 10 or more votes for me to list it? I have a feeling there are hundreds of good shots that only get 8 votes before sinking of the front page.
I realize that the redesign is barely out of the oven but I have this sinking feeling that the new default photo listing is discouraging voting and participation. That's one of the things that made this site was the photos. I know half a dozen users that NEVER post in forums but check the photos religiously.
Perhaps I'm being pessimistic. I'll play around some more.
How are the numbers? Are people bothering to vote?
Is the list view being fixed? Because all I get is the gallery view...I have a feeling a list view encourages a bit more focus, one shot per line, etc, maybe that should be the default view?
Anyone?

Well for my part, I haven't voted on anything yet. I guess this is primarily because the photos section is so jumbled and disconnected, and kind of out of my way. I have to specifically go into the photos section to find them, and then so many things we used to have are gone, so it's far more hassle than it's worth.
If I need pics, I know where to find them elsewhere for less trouble.

See my post about the same topic here. Note that the front page photos are determined by a fixed algorithm, while you as user can set the parameters for the "top rated" page.
Also, I expanded the choices to include "3" and "5" as possible choices for the minimum number of votes to base the top rate photos page on.

I listed 50 new pics on the Photos OP without the comments ("footers"), so I have a nice little list of thumbnails to enlarge and vote for.I find it pretty easy. I might have voted for approx. 200 pics, with some great ones.
I just wish that I COULD VOTE AND COMMENT at the same time without goign back.

We couldn't do that on the old site either, but yes, that would be pretty nice.
