I have quite a few goals already:

Places - hopefully Yosemite
possible Adirondacks
Cannon in NH
More climbing in NH, Gunks, Acadia, and MA

Grades - first 5.11 on trad
collect a lot more 12's on sport

technical - get TRSM cert
learn solo aid
double rope technique
practice some more self rescue

Overarching goal for the year: get in shape without getting hurt. Figuer out how to make my work (self employed) work with lots of climbing.

I'm spending the winter training pretty hard (lots of endurance and general endurance) and cramming in a lot of desert cracks. Hopefully spend the rest of the year getting solid on the harder routes at index, wa and getting in as many long routes as i can. Dreaming of Astroman, Monkey Finger etc... but that may take a while as I am kinda comeing off a coupel of years of couch time.

Oh and i would like to learn to sport climb again as those cats seam pretty strong.

Hmmm...
what would I LIKE to do, or what am I going to do? Aye, there's the rub.

I'd LIKE to send Trench Warfare next year.
I'd LIKE to do my first big wall route in Yosemite (feasible).
I'd LIKE to go back to Vedauwoo and do a ton of grunting and bleeding Shocked

What will I do? Probably start pulling down with more confidence at Devil's Lake (finish those John Gill routes and start work on The Batman). Hit Necedah and Governor Dodge, finally send those few difficult routes at Mississippi Palisades, which everyone writes off for some reason. Also, a week or so to Red River Gorge would be cool.

I hear about Ohio climbing, and have a couple places I'd like to check out, if only because I have friends out that way.

Also, I'd like to get my first taste of Joshua Tree. I feel like it's the holy land of climbing (perhaps mistakenly), and now that I've been at this for two years it's time to make the long pilgrimage from Chicago.

Road trip, anybody?

What I do know for sure is that I'm going to be doing as much climbing as I can, being self employed and all. Hopefully I'll meet some good people along the way, too.

I would like to go back there, I have few weeks off each year, maybe we could set something up.

My plans for next year:

1. Finaly finish few of my projects at Gunks and RRG.

2. Get my act together and start leading more 10a and b gear routes.

3. Keep saving money for major RT in 2008

4. Visit Dirtineye.

I've got a ticklist of 7 sport routes at the New. It's pretty ambitious for me, but I'm going to pull it off! Confidence!

Another 3 Trad leads I'd like to get in before the end of my season next year too, but those are secondary at this point, since if I get strong enough to pull the sport, I'll feel strong enough to lead the gear. I'm a chickenshit on gear still.

I think I'll start out the new year with a month or 2 in Thailand. A few weeks beach climbing and deepwater soloing in Krabi, a bit of wilderness climbing in the northern mountains, the obligatory stop in Koh Samui, plus whatever else seems good at the time. Yep, that will be a nice way to start 2007. Oh, and New YEars Eve at J-Tree of course.

Heading south to climb with good friends a few times- Joshua tree and Red Rocks. Tick off some of the longer classics at RR.

Get comfortable leading harder .10's on gear.

Start regularly onsighting sport .11's.

Lead every pitch of the East Buttress of El Cap.

Serenity-Sons.

Royal Arches-Crest Jewell or RA-South Face North Dome.

Lots of longer classic stuff in Tuolumne.

Adventure climbing in Lassen and Castle Crags.

Get married.

Try to climb in Maui on the honeymoon (yeah right!).

The big bad trip- FA's in the Mendenhall Towers with a good friend. Should be awesome if it works out!

Well I'm definitely hittin' the New for the week of the Rendezvous, and the tick list for that trip is too long to post.

Other than that I'm taking a year off from actually "climbing", in lieu of spending the whole season, cleaning (routes as well as trash), mapping/recording, making some FA's at, and creating a personal guidebook for Boxcar Rocks, PA. It's my home crag and I love the place to death, so I figured it's about time to start treating the place like home. Any locals that want to help me out are more than welcomed and guaranteed a free belay or two for their help.

As usual, my year is just beginning, so....

This year its back to the dacks for a few warm ups on the upper range there. Then its off to Mt Washington in late feb. Followed by down time back virginia where i'll be resting up on some winter kayaking. Then its off to Long's Peak in colorado at the end of March.

Then the maybe when the season gets going in alaska......Mt Mickinley.

(check off mountain #1 of my seven summits goal)

I want casual cragging in mild temps. I want to feel a cool breeze around me and the warm sun on me. I want to climb bullet-hard, quality stone and relax afterwords with good friends, good food and good wine. If I get that -- and I have no reason to think I won't -- it will be yet another fantastic year. Smile
