Well, this sounds like it is going to be a nice trip up to Tahquitz with a lot of quality people. Just a few things: 1) Karen, yes you are a very sleek, lean, delicate girl. However, we are talking about Class 2.13d hiking here. If you hook me up with a little Mint Julip action (or whatever the blended drink of the day is) I can carry your rack and rope if you like. But a whole nother person (is "nother" a word?) may just be beyond the call of duty. Izat Cooo'? 2) What's up with the late start?!?! Not climbing until 10:00am?!?! Almost 1/2 of the day is gone! I would recommend anyone/everyone come camp at the approach and let's get the adult beverages and adult oriented stories fired up. It is so nice to smell the fresh air all night and see the stars. I will be there at either the parking for Lunch Rock or a bit farther up (any flat spot) on Friday night and Saturday night in a gold Montero Sport with the liscense plate ending with --667 and wearing a green fleece with a ton of holes in it that I bootied in Tuolumne. Come over and say hi and we can tell some lies. Then get ready to be up at 6:30am and climbing by 7:30am after a big breakfast. 3) I am the one with the sexy shaven legs. Don't forget that. But seriously, camping at night is a great way to get to know one another better than being 150' away all day. I will be there around 7pm friday night and climbing all day Sat and Sun. Bring some pictures too. If I beat everyone up there Sunday, I may do Fingertrip (in 3 pitches - try it) and come back to Lunch Rock around 10am. Maybe do OB if I can sack it up enough and feel like bringing cams. By the way, prepare to dress warm. Last weekend it got down to 60 with wind and no sun. Not that it will be real bad, but bring a fleece and pants just in case. Let's hope for the best. It does get toasty on the right side of the rock after 2pm so bring shorts too. There are a ton of new routes on the Century Lake side of Malibu. If you all decide to check them out on saturday I'd welcome your input on them. They are scattered all the way from the dam to the large steep block just past the lean-to boulders. Ratings of the new stuff runs from 10- on up. whatever you end up doing - enjoy!

I just talked to the Forest Service lady, and the road to Wmson is still closed on both sides. She also said that Williamson is very smoky and will probably be smoky all weekend. It might by Malibu/Tahquitz for me. -Jay

I hope you make it too, Jay. By the way, last weekend I went to Williamson and had no problem getting to the rock. The signs out of La Canada stated that the road was closed at the ski lift area, so I was fully anticipating that shortly after the lifts I would meet Smokey the Bear and have to turn back. No such thing happened. Made it to Williamson. We were the only ones there at 10 AM. When we left that afternoon there were maby 10 cars at the top.

I'm totally confused. Which day is Tahquitz and which day is Malibu and exactly where and at what time are you meeting each day? -Jay

Okay rrrrrrrrrradam, I may just make it a late start. Or maybe I will just hump a load of water and come back down to help you out (and me!!). You know for training sake. I will still be at the parking Sunday morning at 9am (damn that's late). Maybe I could fix a few pitches for you too if you wanted. Just make sure the Guinness is cold bro, and don't be late. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone again and for the first time. Also, from on top of the awning we were installing in Palm Desert it looked clear up there. Not like I could actually see due to the heat induced hallucinations. So it may not be as cold as last weekend, but be ready for 60-85 degrees. That means sunscreen too for all us white folk. Willy is open from the La Canada side...I just spent the day out there, with not another soul, other than my partner...it was brilliant. The road was closed up ahead at Islip Saddle, but Willy was open and relatively smoke free. Have fun this weekend, all!

Paul... "Fix a few pitches for me" ??? Man you must have improved in the last 2 months, as I had to lead the .double digits for you in Tuolumne. I look forward to an easy day, now that I don't have to lead anything hard. Will you lead Fred for me, I've been wanting to do that climb for a while. Jay... Malibu Saturday at 9AM, and Tahquitz Sunday at 9AMish. [ This Message was edited by: rrradam on 2002-09-13 06:47 ]

Isn't Fred a .11a?? No, I haven't improved that much. I just know the effects of smoking on the lungs and how it couldn't hurt to have a bit of climbing done before you get there. Matt (pranaguy) and I may just do a climb really early and then come back down to help you out. He is going to camp out along with anyone else who wants to. I would like to do the Innominate. I heard it is a good "crack" climb, but I looked in that area, and didn't see any cracks (L of Ski Tracks) or anything 5.9ish. But maybe I will actually look at the book and see. I am down for whatever. Since I climb there so much, I wouldn't mind helping out some newbies to the area too. Let's try to make it more near 9 rather than ish. We got climbing to do bro. And yes, you did lead the hard stuff. You da man and you know that. I will see you at 9amish. TRADitionally yours, Cali Dirtbag
