I thought this picture posted in another thread was pretty cool. If anyone has any more pictures of Dan Osman, free soloing, or any other climbing related stunts then post up.

The "No Fear" company used that picture in one of its posters, its pretty sweet. Its the above picture with the words "Reality is in fact Virtual" printed down the side. Ive always guessed it was Dan Osman but never knew for sure! Anyone else have that poster?

Yut....

On another note: I have a framed No Fear poster of this picture. I hate it. A relative gave it to me "because you like climbing right?" If anybody thinks it is so cool that you want your very own framed version make me an offer. I will be happy to get it out of my basement.

if you really want to be impressed with that picture, you should know that Dan did that stunt with at least one broken or bruised rib, maybe more. I believe that climb clocks in at around .11b/c....

I remember being higly impressed by the Masters of Stone (I think it was Number 4) where Dan O did a speed free solo of a 400 ft rock face in less than 4 minutes.

This picture was taking by a Climbing photographer during an interview he did with Dano before he died... the interview is in the issue of Climbing that talks about his death.. which coincidentally, Iw as reading last night. I forget which issue it was though.

Note: Dano pulled off this flag after he broke two ribs that morning... who here thinks they are that badass....

Isn't this like rock climbing's equivalent of Jim Morrison? Dano was the coolest, and the baddest, but he was also, for at least a minute or two, one of the dumbest people on the planet. Like Mugs Stump... great guy, bad call.

This man wins.

Dan Osman was a very talented climber, but he was also an archetype example of the reckless kid type that this sport commonly attracts. I don't consider making stunts more dangerous than they have to be overly impressive.

Dan had nothing of a reckless kid, that’s a tiring cliché. imo

His choice….
His systems
His field….

Backstep: au contraire, he was a kid careful with his body, his mind all the time calculating risks. Sure, he loved to fall, loved to control his body and his pain. Recurrence from the past. He stuck to his plans, to live an outdoor life and be “a sort of climbing Bruce lee Tarzan”. His projects became reality, from A-Z.

Few living beings achieve objectives thought about when young. Most of us sit in the system’s conventional mould, and spend a plain, vain life. Is our death then more predictable? No. Young people exit unexpectedly while taking little risks, is it fatality, destiny, or neglect.

By daring, Dan* taught me to face terror, brainwash, hijack, separation, death and pain. He roped his fears and took the lead over vulnerabilities. He untied the knots of his education and traumas, climbed, freed, soloed, and jumped.

Routes depend on roots, past experiences, passions, talents, energy, time, traumas. Lines and schemes we replicate or exorcise…Again, please, “consider the angle”
