Just wondering how the area is in January...? Which areas are the best to visit? I'm coming from Western Mass...also thinking of LRC and possibly HP40....but Boone seems closest for a short week trip. thanks...

Boone can be iffy that time of year. You may get perfect weather for bouldering or you may get snow and rain. Rumbling Bald near Asheville offers just as much bouldering and better temps/weather than Boone since it is several thousand feet lower in elevation. LRC and HP40 are always great winter options but as you stated are a little further. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions. Also feel free to hit me up if yo umake it down to NC. I'd be happy to show you guys around for a day or two. Matt

The weather has been mild lately, but that can change really quick. Gmom isn't usually a very good winter time spot, but Lost Cove is a really good option when it's colder, and is just down the road from gmom.
