I'm planning on going to HCR in Arkansas around January first ish. Does anybody know how the temps will be? I don't mind climbing in the cold, but if it's ridiculous and I'd be better off skipping it I'd like to know. I'm getting desperate for winter climbing!

Historically the temps avg. 25-44 during the first week of Jan. That is not terribly cold. If the sun is out, find a south facing cliff band and the conditions will be perfect.

Kinda chilly, but dress smart you'll be fine. Your rubber will stick like crazy ;) hey, every little bit helps. You'll be fine...too many people ditch climbing outdoors simply because it's cold. Hah, have fun. -Cy

Winter in Arkansas is "vedy nass" indeed. Better than the summer, that's for sure. I always climb there (Sam's, HCR, or Mag) when visiting relatives over the holidays (ie now), and have only had one problem with cold, about five years ago at Mag. This winter is really mild so far.
