First off, I think there should be a Video Forum now that its an integral part of the site. OK, so I'm totally musically disinclined, could some of you guys help me out and name some good bands/songs for climbing video music? Thanks! -Danno

Please note that the following is TOTALLY subjective and ONLY MY opinion....... It really depends on what type of climbing is featured in the video...AND...what type of feeling you want to convey to the audience. A "bout of kung fu fury" bouldering video with sick throws, greasy slaps, and muscley acrobatic type stuff would lend itself well to an upbeat, bass pumping jam. A video of someone climbing a rad 400 foot 5.9 handcrack in the High Sierras might be more suited to an etheral-type/ ambient, slower tempo mood music. You could really go anywhere with this depending on lighting, mood, what the climber is wearing, the weather at the time of the ascent, ets, etc, ad nauseum. My personal favorite for climbing videos is electronic creations. A few of my personal fave artists / groups are: Brainwave Zero One Enforcer Blue Screen Alphazone BT Of course, if you don't like a certain type of music (like electronica) haha, don't even bother....use something you really like and pumps you up. TO the moon!

#1 Best: Your own music. I like: Tasteful Electronica String solos Woodwind solos (especially Oboe, Clarinet). Heavy-duty screaming lead guitar solos (such as "Eruption" by Eddie Van Halen...heh heh...) Percussion solos I usually do NOT enjoy hearing lyrics in climbing music, no matter how fitting or good. I'm not sure why, I think it distracts me. Refer to "Masters of Stone IV". Good advice from MasterBlaster.

the best music for a particular video part is the music that suits it. ANY music can be fantastic in the right place, and fantastic music can wreck a movie if it doesnt suit. having said that I find the most versatile music is stuff like american analog set, her space holiday, teddybears, telepopmusik etc

I have to say that Freestyler by Bomfunk is an excellent choice for an epic video. You will have to hear the song to understand though. Everytime I hear the beginning of the song i can just picture someone clapping their hands in slow motion and chalk flying everywhere as the narrarator talks about the heinous moves. An upbeat fast song for a dynamic bouldering video would be a song called "tarantula" but im not sure who does it. Its a drum and bass song that is pretty good.

It is all personal preference, I like harder stuff -- Rage Against The Machine, Soundgarden, Wolfmother, etc. Just posted my latest video on YouTube of a friend climbing at Joshua Tree http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbhJ68Z-TMg This is set to Rage Against The Machine Oh, and I second the opinion that a forum devoted to Video would be cool.
