I got two blocks of chalk, a Snickers bar, and a National Enquirer. But I've also got a baby boy, and he got lots of presents, and he's loving Christmas and everybody's loving him. So I couldn't ask for more.

Then again, I have three $50 bills that were intended as "back up" gifts in case I forgot any of my nieces and nephews. I didn't forget anybody and my wife doesn't know about the $50's. New shoes, here I come!

Couple of cams, some good new climbing reading, and a climbing-themed sweatshirt and t-shirt. Plus some books on CD for long roadtrips; _The Brothers Karamazov_ should last me for a while.

this guy moved into the office next to mine couple months ago, who's got this really annoying habit of drumming his knuckles and hands on his desk. like loud. like emphatic. i've asked if he plays drum for a band or something, like practicing at the office before his gig after work. he said no. apparently it's simply a compulsion that he just can't keep from doing. i've already asked him repeatedly to tone it down. he would apologize, say he's glad that i told him, but after a few hours, on would come the incessant thumping on the desk again. was on the verge of going through proper protocol to get this silly thing resolved, because heck, despite the hassle and possible melodrama, it's really really annoying to have that racket going on next door while you're trying to help advance the space endeavors of America. this is just not the kind of place that should require this sort of official action in the first place. but apparently, he just can't help it. anyway, Xmas rolled around, so i asked Santa for one thing and one thing only. not material gifts, but to get this guy the hell away from me, far far away. i didn't care. throw him under a bus if you have to, Santa. that was last thursday. and today, 2 days after Xmas, i heard and saw my office neighbor hustling and bustling to get his stuff moved. to another building!! first i'm totally stoked that i have this kind of sway with holiday supernatural beings. then i got a tad concerned about the bus thing. there is a bus line that runs through the intersection where our buildings are scattered around. guess we'll just have to see if he survives the day

I've been offering to take a couple of my younger cousins climbing, but the parental permission hasn't been so easy to come by . . .

In reply to: As far as cool gear is concerned... I never get much for xmas, nor do I mind the lack of material exchange, but my sister made me a necklace (i baked her apple cinnamon bread) and my mum helped me out big time this year by giving me a couple hundred dollars. Im so screwed right now because of a WCB situation and she read my mind by helping cover a big worry. Oh, almost forgot, I got a bottle of homemade wine from a friend of the family's from back home... the best rassberry wine ive ever had too! Seeing my little nefew flash a 5.8 and setting up the slackline for him and my niece on xmas day was by far the best time of the holidays for me... and when Graham came home on boxing day after visiting his family in BC. I missed him waaay more than I thought I would!

ah yes, the homemade wine. always "good gear". I get 2-3 bottles a year at Christmas from one of my clients and its talked about until the next batch comes the following Christmas. To me, the homemade stuff, even from a kit, is always seemingly better than anything I find out in a store, restaurant, etc. Cash always a great gift too!

I had a great christmas I got a new nikon digital camera (last camera got stolen) My first snowboard setup (board, boots, bindings, tools, goggles) $50 to Scheel's (sports store) which I used with some cash to get a new sleeping bag $50 to best buy used towards a new PS2 (don't game enough for a ps3) a couple jazz cd's socks (my foot odor is awful so I go through socks fast) DVD's (First Descent, Anamoly, Clerks 2, Vol. 1 of family guy) gifts to myself: Season pass to local ski/snowboard hill (we don't have mountains in Iowa) and freedom of the hills 7th edition. my family doesn't have the first idea of what to buy climbing wise so I didn't even ask.
